Wishing you luck.. I'm on the fence on this. I too want HID bad. I've priced OEM HID headlights and they run about $1k each, and that does not include electronics. I haven't found any HID headlights on ebay either.
I did notice that the standard halogen bulb output does have a nice cutoff. SO in theory the HID would too. I'm just concerned about how well the stock headlight will output the HID beam, I don't want to blind other drivers. For the others that did install after market HID's: Bimmerman's install guide shows you have to drill a hole into the center of each of the rear cover of lamp housings with a hole cutter... did any of you do this? I'm just hesitant of cutting into my stock housings. Bimmerman - $170 DTM - $65 Mtec - $300 obo Hmmmm..... |

The thing about the $300 MTEC solution is that it is truly 'plug-and-play'. Yes, there is additional installation work to mount the electronics, but that is minor compared to some other kits.

Mounting the ballast behind the bumper is fine. I can handle that.. I'd just prefer not cutting up my stock components. |

That is why I bought it. No re-inventing of the wheel. Hardest part is getting to the existing bulb. If you can, put the car on a lift and remove the tire. It almost becomes easy. All the cables and connectors fit. Yes, there are cheaper alternatives, but they all take more labor. It's a trade off. I'm a believer in 'do it right the first time' so I don't have to do it again. I researched HID conversions for about a month before I bought the MTEC.
