Yes this is something you could have an indie shop perform, or if you have access to a lift even a DIY. Mine was under warranty at the time so I took it to the dealer. They removed the flange and greased as per the SIB with BMW's Optitemp HT1LF grease, and replaced the rear differential input shaft seal (Number 9 on the parts list). Hope this helps. Dave Quote:
I'm not sure if it is, when I first posted some thought it might be similar. I could hear the clunk letting off the clutch while taking off in lower gears and at times slowly approaching a stop sign or stop light when the clutch was depressed. Not sure if this is even an issue with the M-differential. Dave

clunk is normal, we have a "heavy duty clutch" as BMW calls it. You just have to double clutch a bit at low speeds. Ive had it since day one, we all have if you don't give it a little gas. Totally normal, worry more about the 2nd gear grind, my synchro is now shot and im looking at ALOT for a rebuild. |
