Aero on Naturally Aspirated car?
Do our cars make enough power without FI to add an aero spoiler to the rear?
Turn 10 at homestead is a high speed sweeper off the back straight and I feel the car get lighting at the rear when taking the turn at speed. I believe this is due to the short wheelbase of the car. So I was wondering if the added downforce of aero in solving one problem will create another. Any thoughts? |

As long as it can drive 80 mph. The stated speed where aero begins to have a greater affect, according to some material that I have read.

My question wasn't very clear, so I'll try again. Will the increase in downforce be of enough benefit if you don't have the added power of FI to offset the added drag? The reason I ask is that I haven't seen anyone that has added aero that wasn't already supercharged. |

Yes it will if you are on a high speed track I.e several corners greater than 70 mph . My friend picked up a full 2 seconds a lap (1:20 vs 1:22)adding a 69 inch Kognition rear wing on his stock power S2000 at Roebling road . Adding several hundred pounds of downforce to a short wheelbase car can make a huge difference in stability at speed. Bc he cornered 10 mph faster leading onto the front straight he actually achieved a higher top speed .

Aero is based on speed and the angle of the aero which is why I used the analogy. And, FYI, most cars at the track or racing on tv are NOT fi. They are naturally aspirated. |

I race against e36 & e46 M3s with mostly stock engines with full aero.
