Does the Sport button decrease DSC intervention?

Hey guys -- my second day running Thunderhill Raceway in Northern CA is tomorrow, and today I struggled against a nagging DSC light severely throttling my 500HP. Since we are running the course in reverse, there are no burms or otherwise safe run-off room at the corner exits, and I'm quite hesitant to turn off DSC entirely. The supercharger makes it pretty easy to kill traction with a twitch, and some of the corners are very fast.

I was under the impression that the Sport button only changed the throttle map, but in thinking about it more (and comparing to my Porsche), it makes no sense that BMW wouldn't use that as an indication for DSC to back off some as well. Is this actually true or not? If not, I'd prefer to keep my regular throttle mapping

Why don't you try and see, but I couldn't imagine there is a correlation. Ron and I can tell you after thunderhill Monday with NCRC. Hell, just stay another day, so there's 3 of us out there.

Sport button does not affect DSC intervention. I can't run with it on at the track (although RunnerX and others can), and it's just too abrupt for me.

See this post by The Hack. I found it very helpful, then again neither of us are running your power levels!

And yeah, stay another day! NCRC has plenty of openings for Monday's event!
Standard configuration (CCW) too.

Ok cool. I wish I could stay another day, but work will not tolerate it this weekend--had to leave mid day Friday for mandatory orientation.

With DSC off, what other helpers remain on? Obviously ABS, but what about CBC (Cornering Brake Control)?

ABS only with it off. When it's off, it's off.

the traction on these cars suck....

my car is considerably slower than the stock z4m with the T/C on trying to drive quickly, the extra power is simply just cut to nothing.... if youve got an s/c or turbo car... dont try to race a stock z4m with this left on... you'll loose.. badly...

I've never taken the Z4M to the track, but I remember how terrible the E46 M3's DSC was when I did the Skip Barber school up at Limerock. I'm not sure it even allows 1* of slip before it kicks in, kinda trigger happy for a performance car that's reasonably well balanced.

E82tt6: If you don't like it, then turn it off. Cars didn't used to have any of these gadgets. What's the worse that will happen is you'll learn that 330hp is enough and you don't need a supercharger..

I don't disagree. I've actually found that stability control can sometimes actually impede car control in certain circumstances, especially snow. If you properly correct in the event of oversteer with DSC engaged, it will often overcompensate and end up kicking the rear out in the opposite direction.

I was simply commenting on the fact that the DSC isn't programmed with high performance driving in mind.

Best thing I did for the track weekend was work up the courage to turn off DSC. Don't regret it at all even though a very tricky corner lead me to spin one lap!
