As long as you don't think the Germans pronounce it "Zee". That's only in Hollywood, as in "Damn, zee Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbour and now we have zee Americans to content with".
Gotta love all those classically trained Brit actors playing Nazis in those great 70s war flicks! |

"That's perfectly fine. The US is a big country and each region has its own language, just like our broader discussion. But the sentiment remains. I believe you'll get your ass kicked if you're some Northern US yank impersonating a Southerner in Louisiana."
Unless you're that poor actor Stephen Moyer who plays Bill on True Blood. As a Brit, he's always getting into trouble when he speaks natually as folks from the south find his accent so authentic and refined. Some folks just can't win ;-) |

For me, being Canadian, it is Zed4, but oddly enough I call the Nissan a 370zee. Shocked at the animosity levels in this thread, to be honest. Making assumptions on one's character, based on pronunciation of a single letter, is a little much, me thinks. |

It's one of the (usually) positive things that distinguish our American cousins from us. Speaking only for me, I rarely complain in a restaraunt but then have the problem influence the way I tip. Very unfair. With my American friends, they might grumble and complain, but they at least give the person a chance to remedy the situation. I agree, some of the comments here have seemed a little harsh and perhaps not well thought out, but for the most part they've been good-humoured (with a u) banter ;-) |

This actually comes down to a similar thread I recall about....."Do you sit or stand to pee ?"
I always answered " I do whatever the Eff I like, plus I'm a multi-tasker by nature",lol. I don't think this is an American sentiment.....I think its worldwide. Just do it. |

All this talk of correct pronunciation reminds me of a joke.
This guy from Canada was driving across the south western US in a Montego Blue BMW Z4 when he was stopped by a state trooper, curious about the foreign tags on the car. “Where are you headed?” asked the trooper. “San Josie” replied the Canuck. “San Josie? Oh – you mean to say San Ho-zay”, replied the trooper, correctly pronouncing the name of the city. “Sorry about that”, replied the Canuck sheepishly. “How long are you staying?” “Not long, half of HUNE and all of HU-LY!”

At school learning the alphabet, Zed = capital letter, Zee = lower case
But who cares, different countries different spellings different pronunciations. |
