Z4MC - Proper Hello and Mod List

Hello Everyone! I recently discovered ZPOST a few months ago, and it's an excellent forum! I wanted to repost the thread that I recently made on the bimmerfest forum because the mod list might be useful to some of you guys on ZPOST (who might not frequent bimmerfest).

I bought my Z4 M Coupe new in 2007 from a dealer in SLO, CA. It's Sapphire Black Metallic with Black Leather and Aluminum trim. The car has every option except Extended Leather, and includes factory Sirius radio (with the antenna mounted on the dash, i.e. not outside the car).

Here's a picture I took of my M Coupe the other day:

Since I haven't contributed much to this forum yet, here's a list of all my current modifications (including part numbers and links to websites where I purchased some stuff). Hopefully this will be helpful to some of you guys who might want to do similar mods.

Wow! Love the wheels! Great details!

Why switch to the rubber antenna? Just looks? I'm going to buy one.

Why spacers on the front wheels? To widen the track?

Do the first ait kit drawers provide a little extra space? Or are you just using them for finish asthetics? Same part numbers for drivers and passengers side? It would be nice to squeeze my sunglass case somewhere.

awesome car. I just recently picked up an 08 SBM M coupe and i love it.

Quick request, can you post a pic of where you mounted the Sirius antenna.
I wanted to do the upgrade but do not want to mount it on the exterior - so i opted not to make the purchase. Any issues with reception?

I don't have a picture but I have the satellite antenna right smack in the middle of the dash, way up front against the windshield. I originally installed it on the outside but this didn't work as the opening and closing of the rear hatch eventually weakened and broke the wire. The antenna runs from the rear bulkhead area (where it is attached to the receiver) down the drivers side door sill under the trim, and then I tucked it in along the left side trim up the dash and along the lower edge of the windshield. It stays in place with velcro on the bottom and on the dash where it sits. No reception problems at all in this location and no worries about it being damaged.

I have the same wheels and spacers from the same company (10 mm for me).

Because of the offset of the ZCP wheels, they are sunken in 5mm vs stock. So the spacer is there to gain that back, and in both of our cases, add a little more to gain a little track and to get a more flush look I assume.

Car looks nice!

I originally switched to the short antenna because I was using the car cover a lot and I didn't want to unscrew the antenna every time I wanted to use the car cover. 3" or less works best with the car cover.

Yes, the one in the picture is the 4" OEM BMW antenna.

Just like 03BeastCharmer said, the offsets on the ZCP wheels are not the same as the stock wheels. ZCP wheels without spacers fit -5mm on the front and +9mm on the rear. Adding 12mm to the front gives me +7mm on the front, which looks a lot better.

I use both first aid storage boxes to store random stuff. The Z4 really lacks storage space, especially with that tiny glove box. The same part numbers work for either side.

I think mhughett did a great job describing the satellite antenna location, a picture wouldn't help much. My cable is routed differently, it goes: bulkhead area, up the passenger side B pillar, inside the roof lining, down the passenger side A pillar, then along the windshield to the center of the dash. No issues with reception other than the typical satellite reception issues.

I didn't realize they were sold out. I bought mine from bimmernav.com a couple of years ago. It works great especially with the new 6.0 firmware.

Definitely. There are some great drives in this area!

Have you been to the Cars & Coffee event at Santana Row? It's usually every Saturdary morning. The turnout can be really good when the weather is nice.
