I am also very interested in this.

The one thing I am most interested is the position of the secondary cats. In fact, other than Shiv, I have never even seen any other exhaust thread even mention a set of secondary cats. When shiv made his exhaust it was apparently primary cat back (it eleiminated the secondary cats) and it was felt that most of the gain in flow came from this.

His car also still passed CA emissions easily so the obvious poor mans exhaust mod seems like it would be simply replacing the secondary cats with straight pipe, combined with the golf T mod and you should have a louder, better sounding, better flowing exhast for around $100.00

FYI, I have a Honda S2000, and when I added a supercharger the stock exhaust changed from an OK sound to a mean and louder sound when the car is in full-attack mode.

Anyone with XEDE care to comment on whether their stock exhaust sounds difference with the extra power?

Here is the best thing aobut our cars. There are 2 huge mid mufflers (secondary cats) and also resonators on our cars.

BMW's O2 sensor is right before the primary cat so anything after that it does not read. SO we can do straight pipe all the way back and will not mess with the o2 reading since it is all after the o2 sensor.

on my exhuast we did a 2.5 inch piping all the way back with no resonators and then have 2 magnaflow mufflers with straight through design. I still have the stock cats on, which we are working on, but there is like NO room at all to work in there.

my car sounds alot awesome and you can for sure notice a difference in performance.!!

ill get pics asap..

I will have a custom 2.5" exhaust with Xpipe on my car on Friday.
We will have stock and exhaust dyno slips.

The stock exhaust is very restricted.

We will do from the stock DPs back, at first.
Eventually doing the stock DPs with some hi flow cats as well.
The center cats and resonators will be replaced by a hi flow Xpipe and the cans will be hi flow with 3.5" tips.
The shop feels they can free up alot of power.
We'll have dyno slips to prove all data this weekend as well.

CEA3, where did you do your set up ?

Any rasp with the removal of secondary cats and resonators? I was never a fan of the rasp in my e46 M3 and infact added a second resonator to section 2 to reduce it.

not raspy at all.... turbo cars wont sound like the M3.

At idle the car sounds great, aggressive but not to loud. And when your on it it sounds like an S4 (turbo) with exhaust. sounds pretty throaty.

i have no resonators on mine. just 2.5 from cat back ...and we are working on some straight pipes but there isnt much room.

Yes, you are 100% correct. The rumble sound from a turbo'd car is very different than that of an N/A one. Turbo'd car with exhaust sounds a lot deeper IMO than N/A's.

I was just curious, as my car got a full prototype 2.5" system put on it today.
Can't wait to go pick it up tomorrow.

Post some clips of yours, as I'll be doing the same.

I just realized something. Under my E90 330i, the area under the trunk storage trough is sealed with a hard plastic undercarriage, presumably for better aerodynamics, and improved air flow under the car.

The E90 335i has no covering under the muffler (for obvious reasons), but this is similar to the E46 design that might cause air buffeting under the rear bumper cover.

Is there a close up pic of the mid section (second set of cats and/or resonator)?

Thanks,
