BMW wall mount for Flexible Fast Charger

Now I know I might be getting ahead of myself on this one since most if not all of us are still waiting for our deliveries, but since in the US at least, the i4 comes with the flexible fast charger I do not see the reason to buy another charger, initially at least.

I've seen the following part at the BMW dealers in Europe. "61 90 5 A13 A62"

This is a very elegant wall mount option for the flexible fast charger. I'd like to get my garage prepped for this so I don't have cables laying around.

Does anyone know the equivalent part in the US? Or something similar?

Part number is the same

I believe that the part number "61 90 5 A13 A62" is the same in the USA. The only place that I found it available is ECS Tuning.

Found it here too:

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...80-61905a13a62

It was $59 shipped from Germany. It will take a month or two to get; good thing I'm in no rush 🙂

Blocked?

What does “blocked” mean.
Surely US Customs is not preventing these parts from coming into the USA.

This charger can be used with 120 and 240 outlets right? And if plugged into a 240 outlet it's actual Level 2 charging?

Correct. It comes with adapters for regular 120V outlet (NEMA 5-15) and a 240V outlet (NEMA 14-50) in US.

Damn! I wish I knew this since I already bought a ChargePoint charger. Will it do up to 50amps?

Also, did you trying calling ECS Tuning?

I ended buying it off eBay! About the same price shipped from Germany 😊.

Yep, it comes with the adapter for NEMA 14-50 outlet which uses a 50AMP circuit (9.6kW charging). If you got the direct wire charge point then you're getting 11kW charge rate (60AMPS) I believe.

For me 50AMPS is more than sufficient, I'll still get a full charge overnight, so I couldn't justify spending the money for a separate charger.

What is the charging rate of a home charging unit in the US, here in the UK it's 7.4KW/H but I believe in some parts of Europe it's only 3.7KW/H.

As usual it depends. If your home charger is of the plug in type then you are limited to 9.6KW (240V * 40A). The 9.6KW limitation is based upon the max allowed continuous voltage for a NEMA 14-50 plug. If you want to hardwire your charger then you can go very high. I've seen chargers that will do 24KW (240V * 100A).

FYI - BMW NA does not allow US dealers to sell parts not specifically for models NA imports or imported to the US. It's been a problem even for classic cars, if the model was not one BMW NA officially imported. One must find a foreign source. No likely US customs knows or cares.

Mine is wiring direct to the fuse box but maybe it was the type of charger I got that’s limited to the 7.4KW

Most UK homes have single phase supplies to the house. Single phase in the UK has a max of 32A for EV charger, so around 7.2 kW. If you want faster charging, you'd have to go 3 phase, which can give you up to 22 kW.

If you already have a 3 phase supply to your house, you could have elected to go for a 22 kW charger.

I just got this delivered, ready for the mobile charger 🙂. The cable management part (on top of the picture) is metal, the charger mount is heavy duty plastic.

other than the mount for the mobile charger, i would just buy a generic cable management system off amazon, lots of options here...

https://www.amazon.com/ev-charger-ho...charger+holder

I'm trying to see if someone has 3d printed one yet so i can just get the stl file.

to be honest I wouldn't splurge on the wallbox type chargers, you won't get much more out of it, and it's doubtful you are going to bring your mobile pack with you and plug in to a 110 (not even worth it). Some people with a 2nd home maybe but even then it's not much of a problem to bring with you. I found with my tesla model s i used the mobile at home on a 30amp electric dryer plug and it was good'nuff' for an overnight charge. If you are charging more than 1 vehicle then I would say do it. In our new house I was very lucky in that they put in 100amp sub panel when they did our hot tub that was right on the garage wall. I ran everything myself on a 50amp with a 14-50. Tesla recommends a GFCI breaker with is about 120 bucks unless you are directly wired into a wallbox. I think if it's off the ground in a garage you are likely okay, but the code is the code for a reason i guess.... Pretty excited for the i4, did a test drive yesterday when I finalized my other, that car is everything I hoped the tesla would be and more, way more luxurious inside, way better driving feel and like 20K less... amazing how far things have come

Your might check your assembled charger. I have an issue with the NEMA 14-50 cable being assembled 180 off. When connected, it makes the front of the charger with the LED face the wall and the mounting screws outward! Maybe the charger or cable was made on a Friday?
