PSI mid pipe first impressions...
Installed the PSI literally 10 minutes after it arrived.
Really nice craftsmanship, everything lined up well. I cut at the middle dimple, like PSI told me to (I called them). I used jack stands to do the install, and I dont know what they put in TexasEd 's steaks because I sore AF today and it took me 2 hours because I was crawling around like a worm LOL Moment of truth. M1 (sport plus mode), cold start. Holy hell. M performance cold start sounds like 2 metal goats fucking (keep reading). This has nothing to do with the PSI mid pipe, the emissions sequence from BMW is super aggressive with valves ass flapping in the wind, raised revs, and super rich mixture... its just crazy like that. Also the s58 straight 6 isn't the most harmonic engine, although I like it better than the F80 one. Switched to comfort mode for the duration of the cold start, all is well. Even tried it with the valves off (with the button). Ok I can live with this even at 5am on cold start. No problem. Wife doesnt even wake up. Off to driving.... I can hear the engine!!!! Stock was like a hair dryer all I heard was speaker noise. Let's listen for drone. 2nd, 3rd, 4th... 1500-4000 rpm up and down with the windows up looking for it. light load, medium load, heavier throttle.... nothing. Zero drone. ZERO POINT ZERO. This is in all modes. Well done lads, the stock muffler is doing its job. Driving around in normal rpm range this is very civilized with linear volume increase with imperceptible valve transition. Unlike porsche vacuum style valves where its zero to fucking hero at 4k rpm. This is very nice and refined. With stock airboxes and bmc filters the car sounds bad ass. Like mean and bad ass, very deep tone. At redline the car sounds like it wants to eat everything on the road but its not too loud. Hit the exaust off button and its stealth mode like James Bond. I had to do this a few times when my radar detector went off and I spotted cops... they were looking to see who was making all that noise... SOIIIIIKE, exhaust off bitches... Intakes. I slapped the BMC cone intakes back on the car (I had uninstalled them due to concern it would be too loud). Nope. Its perfect. Actually the combination of the intakes and mid pipes makes the car drive super sharp and snappy as well. And I think the mid-pipes make power. I can now pull the same times on pump gas that I was pulling on E20 mixture and now with less boost. But I will gladly take the sound over more performance gain on the car because its more important to me. In summary I am picky as hell with exhausts. For a daily driver PSI nailed it. You can actually probably put downpipes on the car and it wouldnt be too crazy with the stock muffler. When the car is warmed up the sport plus start (not cold start) is phenomenal, and the revs are amazing. I still need to film fly bys etc. Will post on instagram. See this clip where I joined cicadas in song last night after the first drive (this is with stock airboxes and PSI mid pipes). I will update this thread as time goes by..

I'm glad you like the midpipes. I had no problem with the install but unlike yourself I backed my car up on my ramps which raised the rear of the car nicely. I then used a low profile jack and jackstands. Were you able to reinstall the aluminum metal skid plate? I left mine off as there is no room to reinstall the plate with the new midpipes. Not a big deal anyway.
The weight savings is quite significant and I can tell an improved throttle response and acceleration. Sound is great! Overall a really nice addition to the car in both weight savings, increased hp, and sound. |

I'll go for the supersprint midpipe. I'm quite close to their headquarter here in Italy (120kms far) so i'll take directly my car there to install something in order to let me (and to the pedestrians as well) listen to the inline 6.

Sounds great. I'm between this and the Valvetronic, and I like how this one seems a bit lower pitched. My only concern is it seems every person who's posted they have this midpipe looks to have clearance issues and that's a big bummer. I don't really want to space the brace off with washers.

If u use big stainless ones its not a big deal. The x pipe makes power if u have a tune

PSI sounds really good, I have personally seen and heard on both of PSI's shop cars.

One of the keys for me was tightening the hanger mount bolts all the way to get it as high as possible. Then i just put some upward pressure on the x as i was tightening the clamps. I have no concern for the washer spacers 1) theyre stainless and 2) theyre 1.75 inches wide each so thats plenty of surface for force transfer from the plate

So.....PSI, that's 3 pipes here that haven't cleared the cross brace. Might want to angle the pipes so that the center of the "X" is higher. Not a huge issue but fine tuning you can do on your end. @sean@psi |

Lifting up forcefully and tightening the clamps didn’t work for me. Yes, for me the touching does create a harmonic vibration at off-idle or low rpm. I like your idea of rubber washer or a rubber washer between 2 stainless depending on the clearance height

I put 2 stacked 5/8” stainless steel washers (the hole is 5/8) for each bolt. The plate is for anti roll i didnt want it to flex

Right. I thought about that. Rubber would defeat the purpose. Thanks for mentioning the exact hole size. It would bug me if the washers didn't line up exactly with each other, but that's just me
