They are really cracking down in Cali from what I heard. Wouldn't be surprised if more people start getting those.

Ya a lot of cops are just looking for modified cars and giving those tickets out. They are mostly at places like the canyons we have in Los Angeles.
Car is completely stock I just have to go to the court house. |

Just another reason why I would never even consider moving to California.

Sounds like this exact officer (I know so many that are so good) has a hard on for exhausts.

Many of us are going to become "victims by association". Having just came from a large car event this past weekend (400+ cars), and 95% of the cars (from Hondas & Hyundais to BMWs & Supras) had loud, aftermarket exhausts or modifications, it's just annoying now. Loud farts & burbles, coupled with disturbing pops & bangs (as loud as gunshots) and more. I can't imagine living anywhere near the owners of these cars, as hearing them leaving in the morning, or coming home late at night would simply be tiring, to say the least.
I like a good exhaust sound too, but we've gone too far. We, meaning car enthusiasts. And we didn't regulate ourselves, we let it get out of hand, so now, many jurisdictions (not just Cali) are working on noise pollution laws to start to control a situation that I also believe has spiraled out of control. Many of these exhausts are just too loud, because many don't have valve controls...and the cold starts are the worst. Thus, this was bound to happen. Many of these cars rolling through neighborhoods or in a city (where the noise bangs off buildings), it's just too much...sometimes it's deafening. And certainly it scares some young children and babies, or the elderly. Again, I like an aggressive sound, but there's a time and a place. And there is such a thing as too loud, for neighborhoods or city streets. They are truly "disturbing the peace". Should new stock G8Xs get exhaust tickets? Of course not. Randomly putting tickets in cars that look like they may be loud because of the size of the exhaust tips is silly too. But now that we've let the police get involved because we couldn't control ourselves, we get what we get. |

One of the first things they look for, especially on the Cen Cal coast, is no front license plate.

This brings up a question that I don't understand.
Why do the ridiculously loud Harleys especially the ones with that have that also have the deafening stereos-usually playing skynyrd - get a pass?

I'd hope you're going to make an issue of this with the cop's supervisors while you fight the ticket. If your car is stock, it's CA-certified for sale and use as is and this is an instance of a cop overstepping his authority. If he is being this petty on something this small, there's probably other issues with this individual.
