Brake Duct is loose
I hit a rubber cone at the bmw car control clinic, now my brake duct on that side is loose and kinda flopping around inside there. How can I fix it? How is it held to the bumper? I assume I need to remove the wheel-well plastic shield to get to it?

Ah yes, been there.
The brake duct is attached to a bracket via the plastic plugs built into the brake duct. If they have broken, you need to order a new brake duct. The twist screws in the wheel well could have come off, but having done the same, its most likely the plastic plugs that are broken. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...60&hg=51&fg=15 Here is the diagram. You can try just turning the wheel all the way in and check the back of the duct. To replace the duct, you need to pull the front bumper off. Do yourself a favor and order one of each support panel before you do. You will break them if its the first time you are taking the bumper off. 17 Support, side panel front left 1 51117165179 $36.42 17 Support, side panel front right 1 51117165180 $36.42 I still break them from time to time taking my bumper off. Stupid design!!!

Take a look first
You could pull off the front clip and take a look as well - depending on where it let go sometimes you can either repair it with an epoxy fiberglass or in a pinch I have used Zip ties and they never fell off @
They are not held on with a lot and neither are the lower covers

I drilled a hole in mine and used a plastic push rivit to secure it. It works like a charm. You do not have to remove the bumper. You can get this out if you remove the wheel and wheel arch liner; much easier. You do not have to buy a new one!

I drilled thru mine to the original mount and put a screw, washer and nut to hold it together. You need to take of the bumper cover to do that. Mine have been pretty solid ever since. A stubby screwdriver just barely fits in the brake duct to tighten it up.
