Power Top partially opens.

Good Evening,

I have a 2004 with a malfunctioning power top. It will unlock and then raise about 8 inches before stopping. Motor noise continues. At that point I can move the top by hand. The last time the top opened before this failure it seemed to be struggling.
I have read as many threads as I could to try to get an idea of my root cause. Do these symptoms indicate a fluid leak? Thank you.

Hard to tell till you scope it, which is pretty much pulling the motor out to see if theres fluid.. going through trunk is easiest
