e86 with N54.....?

Sitting here pondering how bad this question is going to go over.

I'm a N54 enthusiast. I've had a 135i and now have a E92 335xi 6spd MT I'm currently building for road course track events. I'm about halfway done with a fully built N54 block(CP pistons, Molnar rods, etc) and built with new hybrid turbo's staged for about 750hp. I'll tune for around 550-600AWHP.

So here is the thing. I LOVE the E86. I've always been a 2 seater roadster kind of guy(can't do the convertible). I love the design and have always thought it made me feel the same way a 240z, 370z, TVR, and I just love the way those rear seats almost bounce right on top of the rear wheels. Truth is I do not LOVE the e92. I really like the E92 M3...but again I'd rather have the N54. The E86 just talks to me.

So...that being said, I can't afford a Z4 M and I'm not a fan of the N52. I have been wondering this for a long time, and I am sure due to not really finding anything in search, that the N54 conversation has not come up all that often.

E86 with a 6speed and a N54....

Thoughts?

E86 with a 6speed and a N54....

Thoughts?
I owned the E85 for many years and I really liked the car. The N52 was a little soft but with some tuning it made a really fun car. The car always felt a little "heavy" for a two seat roaster. Nicely balanced but a few hundred pounds more than my idea of a two seat sports car.

Adding a heavier motor to the front end would not be my personal preference. I drove a few of the "M" versions and they felt front heavy by comparison.

Depending on your plans, Adding headers, tune, MILVs you can have a nice package. Freshen up the suspension and you've got a nice car. Not a 1/4" mile drag demon but it should corner and break really well and probably run clean 5 sec 0-60s. Should also pull 30 mpg on the highway without trying.

It was the weight of the E89 that kept me away for so long. I held onto my E85 until 200K and the plastic bits were falling off everywhere. the E89 is a pig at 3,500 lbs but the N54 pulls it along nicely. It's just not a "sporty" as the E85.

My two cents.
