Tell your friend to take a pic of his speedo when he does it. I'm very skeptical. Once you pass about 110mph it takes FOREVER to increase speed. He'd need a good 10 miles of clear road to do that.
He's claiming the dealer "tuned" his car. So whatever we say here, he'll prolly say cause his is special.

if you see this z4 it has the M5 engine and it says somewhere that the top speed is LIMITED to 300km/h...It might go a little faster if there are no limits.. I might be wrong

here are a few points to ponder: - the 545i motor only develops 325hp (15 hp LESS than a Z4 M Roadster) - the V8 does fit in the Z4, Hartge (master BMW hot rod builder) did it without modifying the engine bay but had a hell of a time making an exhaust for it. - a simple supercharger on a S54 motor pumps 478hp (153hp MORE than a V8) why anyone would want a 545i's V8 in their Z4 is beyond me. the trouble alone is a death wish.

Well...with the S54 engine you could push out to about 180-185 (without a limiter) indicated. Probably doing about 170-175 actual. Just because the Z4 has a low drag coefficient (the coupe's is even lower) doesn't mean it's stable, it just means it has less force holding the car back. In order to push the speeds your talking about you'd want a big front and rear wing to help hold you down and drop the car at least an inch to keep the air from getting under there. I'd guess that you'd need at least 450-500 hp to get to over 200 mph and close to 600-650 to get it to his 220. Like others have said. Its probably until he shows a video or some pics of his speedo with his accolades.
As far as engines go, there's plenty of space under the Z4 hood to stick pretty much anything in there, the problem becomes mating it to a transmission and exhaust, and redesigning everything else in the engine bay around the dimensions of your new motor. Hope that helps.

I agree with all these folks... I don't believe he could get it up that high in a considerable length of straight track. I do think the car would be stable just because of how it handles at 150mph (the fastest I've gotten mine) but I just don't see it getting speed.

It seems like BS, but hate to seem all snobby. But there is one thing to realize. You state your car could only get to 130 with the governor. Even my 328i stock can go upto 142 with the governor. If I had gotten the sport edition it would be 150-155. Then you have the 335i guys with proceed and what not who can easily go 180. That is only a 40mph difference from what your friend said.
Point is BMW's can go to these high speeds since they are built for it. Granted what he said is really fast. Just saying to keep in mind a 350z is a different breed of a car and is built differently than a BMW.

as it was mentioned previously, even with adequate power the car would require more downforce than the underbody equipment we already have. no way a Z4 could be safe at that speed.
this is what a potential 220 mph Z4 would look like

There was a show on Speed Channel recently where Hans Stuck and Tommy Kendal drove an M6 AND M Roadster on the Autobahn and almost reached 200 MPH before having to slow down because of traffic. The cars seemed to be very stable at that speed. These were German BMW's without electronic limiters. I believe they would easily top 200 MPH.
As for your friends story - - BS. |

Seems a little suspect that the M roadster got up to near 200 mph. Maybe 180-185 tops. As I said before i got mine to 168, but there wasn't 30 mph left. And they may have seemed stable to you, but if you could have felt the steering wheel in your hands you may have felt different. Trust me...over 150 the car gets a little light on the road, especially over bumps.
