Clutch Delay Valve Question
I'm wanting to remove the CDV but I'm being told by two separate BMW mechanics that it will dramatically reduce the clutch's lifespan. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

The CDV is to reduce the shock load on the clutch during shifting.
If you shift smoothly then I don't see any issue removing it. I found a difference when I removed that particular nanny.

I deleted mine that had 107k already on the clutch and sold it with 145k miles. Never an issue even with those high miles on the original clutch. The delay valve actually causes it to slip by not releasing quickly enough. It's a nanny device you don't need.

I had an issue long time ago I went to the dealer on can’t even remember what it was and at the time didn’t have a scanner to clear the passenger occupancy sensor code when I switched out my seats absent minded to unplug the battery at the moment of unplugging the stock seat and having a face palm moment knowing it’d throw a code and had to have it reset. I put a new mat in my sparco seat and asked them to clear it’s code while it was there. They gave me the runaround saying it was an aftermarket mat, then when I told them it was bought online from a dealership in Texas parts department they said there was a short in the mat and they couldn’t clear it. So I got a scanner that was capable of reading/clearing airbag codes and poof. No issue with the mat. |

On 2011 335xi I had, it was borderline retarded in 1st->2nd gear shifts. Felt like something was broken. All that was gone as soon as CDV was pulled off. If anything I'd say driving WITH CDV is more likely to cause abnormal clutch wear and constant unnecessary shock to drivetrain. It only works if you drive real slow and smooth 100% of the time. On Z4M however when I took it out it made little difference. Then I found that the CDV on the M has a significantly larger hole compared to regular non-M Z4. So its less restrictive to begin with and drives normally from factory. |

I have deleted the CDV on all my BMWs within the first week of owning them. Drive smoothly and it will be a non-issue. The clutch pedal will feel much more responsive and consistent.

I had mine removed from my Z4M at about 65k miles. I'm now pushing 115k and I wouldn't ever want to go back. Still on the original clutch I may add.

car hasn't done many miles but has spent a fair amount of life on the track ..... clutch feels fine. i didn't notice a huge difference from removing it i dont think but its some time ago now.
