Z4m in the Car&Driver Lightning lap 2007

CD does this once a year, they take about a dozen cars and put them in categories based on price and simular performance and rate them on how well they go around a race track. They used the Virginia International Raceway. the Z4M was in the LL2 category ($30-$60K) and matched against the Corvette (non Z06), Mustang Shelby, and BMW 335I. There are about 8 sections on the track that they rate the speed, handling, braking, acceleration, etc of each car. I was surprised that the Z4M was last in very category, and C&D said the 335I " Between the two (z4M & 335I) , you’d expect the 335i to be more supple over bumps, have vastly more interior room, and be as refined as a Lexus. But what floored us was that the 335i’s best lap (3:10.5) was 1.2 seconds quicker than the M coupe’s."

Another surprise was the LL3 category ($60 -$120K) Audi R8, Audi RS4, Corvette Z06, lotus Exige S, Porsche 911 GT3, and LL4: 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo. The Z06 beat the 911 Turbo in every category . and ran one of the fastest laps at the race track.

Since all of these cars (except the 335I) are designed to run on a race track i thought the performance would be closer, i guess there may be a changing of the guard. At $70K the Corvette Z06 is offering Super Car performance and you can almost by 2 for the price of a 911 Turbo. I may have to pay a visit to my local Chevy Dealer...

repost times liek a million. those guys dont know how to drive bc theres no way a 335 can go faster around track faster than an M.

It's been discussed. Many magazine writers don't understand the coupe. It's not like this is a new complaint.

Add up the times of each section between the M coupe and the 335 and compare the totals.

Look at BMW's Nurburgring lap times. The 335i is like 20 seconds back. You get a track that's only a minute plus to lap, it takes some laps to get some distance on the people behind to you.
