lesson learned with BMW
not do fool with anything with battery connected.
Things I did w/battery on previously -take in and out gauge cluster AND use a M cluster as well -take the seats out went to the dealership to get my OBC reprogrammed as well as get my airbag light off. they service guy comes out and goes, you got fault codes everywhere that won't let the computer reprogram the OBC. I would have to reset all the fault codes which could take few hours he said, and $$$ so I was like forget that. I don't need how many miles per gallon i'm getting lol On a good note, to take the airbag light off, it only cost me $55! Oh and brand new OBC stalk will be for sale. new $110 from Tischer WITHOUT shipping but with discount. so make me an offer

You would think that they would be able to reset fault codes...

bs. I was putting in harnesses in my car and did not disconnect the battery when taking out the seats. I had 4 codes that the dealer took car of for free in 20 seconds.

The guy is lying to you about the codes. Codes can be reset very easily. It's just a click of the button on their computer. As too alot of money that's BS as well. The diagnostic tool just plugs into the car right under the dash.
The same method is done for the airbag light. What he might have meant was that the codes will come back after a couple miles. In which case it wouldn't be worth it for him to clear them, as they would just come back.

yea probably lying to me but i dont' want to make it difficult. instant MPG/average MPG is simply not worth the price I need to pay to fix.
plus i've recieved new top/windshield from the dealership after 50k

BMW dealers are not cheap they'll happily rip you off. no one's willing to work for free around here.
im happy with $55 for airbag light turn off. others were gonna charge me $125
