Finnegan, are we still going to be able to add our comments in a section about our opinions on the systems? For example, I feel like the rasp was way more pronounced on the videos, as the cars got further from the mic, of course the mic didn't pick up the bass and the rasp became super apparent. I don't remember hearing that much rasp during the actual runs and I was surprised to hear that much on the videos.

Oh, and listening to the video on a nice set of headphones or a nice system makes all the difference in the world. Systems sound ok on my laptop speakers, but throw my nice over ear headphones on and the video has a whole new dimension to it...also watching it in 720p.

Now excuse me while I spend another 11 minutes watching this awesome video.
Seriously, we've watched it twice!

Yes, I'll set up a grid so we can add owner comments as well as impressions. Will try to do it tonight.

Agree about the rasp. I think the mic just picks it up more than the other frequencies like you said. Also, some of the lower frequency sounds are felt more than heard (kind of like being at a concert rather than hearing it recorded).

And yes, Mfanatic's system sounds Mfantastic! I just like how good yours sounds too--especially for the price! (Sound/couple hundred bucks = great value.)

Great video. Well done all.

Did anyone find the JVT & Fabspeed headers had a bit more rasp or were they all the same?

Great job on video Flipnout.

I stayed away from magnaflow after having BMS exhaust on for a while. BMS use magnaflow cans. It might be differnt mufflers than you are using, but it drone a lot around 2300 to 2800 rpm. This is the range for my daily driving.

Thanks for editing it flipnout

+1 on Mfanatic's car sounding the best, in person it had the deepest bass tone out of all of them (you felt it in your chest). If I wasn't saving up to do more aggressive gears in the diff, I'd be picking these up asap.

It was hard to do a direct comparison since the JVT setup that used OEM mufflers also had an aftermarket X Pipe. However I can say the difference between a setup with headers and without headers is a very noticeable and very awesome! Both setups had very minimal rasp.

In fact, the video makes it seem like all the systems have way more rasp than what it sounds like in person. I'm guessing the mic just picked up the high frequencies more than the low. During the high speed runs, I don't remember hearing much rasp at all, but in the videos almost every car as it gets further away from the camera sounds like a total rasp machine.

great thread... its also highlighted just how "different" the boosted cars sound, it completely changes the tone/pitch of the exhaust note.....

gferil- can you explain what a generic resonator is and how I would go about getting this done? It sounded pretty cool to me. The price is sure right.

Watched that video! Thanks so much! It's awesome to finally have SOUNDS of different setups and not just descriptions!!!

Did you guys happen to do any in-car testing/video?? I want to hear what it's like inside MFan's ride. I think that's my favorite setup.

Also, nice to see an e89 out there!!!! like that front end

Haha...holy crap I can't forget all 14 of us totally forgot the interior video.

Well...looks like Exhaust 'Fest 2012 The Sequel is due up...

Seriously though, if one of us has a GoPro HD we can pass around, might be the next best thing if we can't manage another meet, and I'd be more than happy to ship my dB meter around with it, but I'm not gonna lie I had so much fun hanging out with you guys I wouldn't mind doing it all over again.

Well...basically, I worked with a local exhaust shop to create a custom system for me. I spent a lot of time talking to the owner and explaining what I was going for and he gave me some options. At first we were trying to do a Borla system using their universal cans, but the fab work was just too much for me, and he felt that the Magnaflow route wouldn't be loud enough for what I was looking for, so I suggested the Aero Turbine setup, which I first saw and heard here on the forums. As we were looking online to get more info on the Aero's, he said, "dude, I got some generic resonators that do basically the same thing, at a much cheaper price."

So really, they are just the standard muffler shop resonator that they have on hand for normal exhaust applications. Your best bet is to go to your local shop that you trust, have them pull up the Aero website and they can let you know what they have on hand that is similar.

I'm going to try and hit up the shop next week (I used to work right across the street from it, but we just moved offices this week and now I'm a whole 4 blocks away! Hahah) and ask him for more details. I'm also going to ask if he can fab some systems to sell to you guys if there is enough interest.

Also, KEY thing is to definitely Dynamat the trunk if you are going to go this route, as there is a lot of drone present. If you Dynamat just the horizontal floor of the trunk it gets rid of a good amount, but there is still lots of boom around 3K, so the back vertical wall of the trunk should also be done, this really tamed the boom, but there is still some drone around 2.8K. I'm actually going to try and do the side vertical walls, and possibly Dynamat some of the plastic and carpet pieces to see if it helps. Dynamat is a lot lighter than most people think so you're not adding that much weight, plus the weight savings of the resonators vs. stock is a lot more than all the Dynamat.

Oh, and since I've installed this system the little center cubby storage has started to rattle during certain RPM's. The system is really bassy, it shakes the floor boards and you can "feel" the exhaust through your feet (I actually had an owner of a Maserati comment how cool it was that she could feel the rumble of the exhaust through the floor...and this was coming from someone that owns a Maserati!) So be prepared to start finding and fixing rattles if you go this route.

Overall though, am super happy with this system. At first the drone was too much for me, but as I started putting more and more Dynamat it has tamed down the interior and still sounds awesome with the windows down.

I'm thinking of adding CC inserts (I actually have the 2 disk versions sitting in my desk drawer as we type this) just to see what happens, but I have a feeling it will tame the system too much...but might as well try just to see right?

Be sure and let me know when you're going to dynamat, Gernard. I'd like to do it too!

Good ideas and options!

I'm not surprised we missed something, we were so wrapped up in socializing and drooling over various mods that it was easy to get distracted. It was just too much fun!

Next time I'll bring an agenda.

I'm going to go the Dynamat route to tame some of the drone as well. I like the RE's, and if I can cut the drone at certain RPM/conditions a bit that will dial it in perfectly. Plus, like Gferil said, the dynamat has some weight that goes with it that's negiliable compared to the weight saved by ditching the OEM anchors...er, exhaust.

what I learned from this.

I'm getting a GruppeM and then stealing gferil's resonators in his sleep.

Hahah...I think I might be changing my mind about going with you to the Tanforan meets...I might end up leaving missing an exhaust!

Seriously though, one of these Friday's I got to roll out with you to one of those.
