Outsmarted the local parking police
In front of my workplace is a 2 hour parking zone. Everyone at my job is always shuffling their cars around, and the cops are sometimes assholes with giving us tickets. Its not like we're gonna take up any less local parking spots if we move our cars, since we work there every day..
Old cops drive by on go-karts with a stick and a piece of chalk and mark your tires. 2 hours later they come back, and if the mark is still on your tire, you get a $35 ticket. You can't wipe off the chalk, thats illegal. So I grabbed my cordless impact wrench, and removed the wheels. I wondered what the cops would mark, if there are no tires to mark. To everyone's delight, the cop was driving by with his stick and chalk, and as he saw that my wheels are missing on the marking side, started cracking up. He immediately realized that he's being trolled, pulled a u-turn, and didn't touch my car for the rest of the day. You can see the trunk lid of my car in the 2nd pic

They still use chalk there ? Here in Laguna they snap a picture of your car along with the meter showing expired and begin writing..... Revenue Nazi's.
But then again, they write tickets to kids on skateboards without helmets too. |

They use vehicles with a camera, GPS and licence plate recognition software here. If the area has a free parking limit or you have overstayed your paid parking (which is paid for using pay stations and inputting your licence plate number and payment, via the Internet or by calling a specific phone number), they just send you the ticket in the mail.

haha, probably. I wish I had a camera set up, but I don't have anything I can hardwire to record for several hours

Too funny and yes, very well played! Recently bought another car from a private party and naturally had to go to the DMV. Well, CA DMV operations are now so bad that they are overflowing, with long lines and their parking lots fill up quickly and stay that way. So on this visit, I was forced to park in the neighborhood.
When I exited the DMV, I found a 'Public Safety Officer' writing a ticket; it was apparently a revenue trap. Actually, there was a whole contingent of Public Safety Officers canvassing the neighborhood of the DMV, knowing it would be easy pickings. The moral of this story is to watch where one parks, because cities everywhere are turning this into another reliable revenue stream. Then they will tell you that they do everything possible to keep the community safe, taxes low, and the budget in check.

Way back when I owned a 1985.5 Honda Prelude, I took of the wipers to have them resprayed black. I drove to a town that is very bad at giving parking tickets. Very odd that I did not get a one that day. Was parked all day :-)

That's an awesome story!
And it seems like the oft-maligned parking cop got a charge out of this just like all of us. I guess its easy to forget that these guys are just doing their job too.

Probably! Next time, my coworkers and I are planning to line up 3-4 cars with no wheels.
