All that power is routed to the rear wheels through an E92-generation M3 six-speed manual gearbox paired with the M5's rear differential.
How on earth they fit this tranny in?! And why BMW couldn't do that then?!

I wonder if it upset the chassis balance? Anyone know the weight difference between the S54 and the V10?

What is the common failure(s) of the S85??

I did find this....

BMW S85 engine problems and reliability
First of all pay attention to the VANOS system. Always check the temperature of it and try not to overheat it.

Also, this engine has problems with premature wear of connecting rod bearings. The interval of its replacement is about 50,000 miles (80,000 km). So, summing up, the most common problems are:

Connecting rod bearing wear
Throttle body actuator failure

The main issues are rod bearings? VANOS? We've been preparing for this engine our whole lives.

Not enough?!

IMO, comparing to this our engines are rock solid Of course after you harden the VANOS

PS: don't get me wrong. I love S85 a lot. That sound is unbelievably good. Just cannot justify for myself rebuilding it every 50k.

My go-to video just to hear the sound after completion without a lot of background noise.

We only need a base of Z4 M, a dollop of M5, a spritz of M3, and a pinch of M6 brakes to find out!
