My '08 Z4 is affected. It's a problem with the "positive crankcase ventilation valve heater". BMW says it could overheat...so it gets replaced. You can search for recalls here: https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-recalls.html Enter the last 7 digits of your VIN to see if your vehicle has any.

1. Does the Z4M S54 engine have this type of recall valve?
2. Searched realoem.com....didn't see this valve?

Looks like it's an N51, 52, 54 issue, and not all of them. At some point I guess the defect crept into production of the PCV valve and they're only recalling cars that have valves from the suspect lots. My '06 3.0si isn't on the list but our '11 E88 is.

You can check for recalls here too:

https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/

Thanks for the heads up. My 07 Coupe 3.0si is on the list. I'm not going to hand the keys to some dummy to work on my car though so I might update it myself in the future.

The S54 ventilation system is a completely different design than the N51, 52, 54 engines and doesn't have the heated PCV.

Dealers don't sell parts that are under a recall when the new part isn't available.
