My Fourth Z4 E85
So, still dealing with EVAP blues and can't pass emissions here in CT unless I get the light to stay OFF! My 2003 3.0 threw the EVAP small leak code from hell and after replacing the cap, front intake solenoid, rear pump and ebay canister, light tripped again. My little slingshot has now expired registration due to this uglyness and I'm getting tired. I'm looking to hear about other similar nightmares and don't tell me that I now need to remove the gas tank and I bet someone will....ugg
This is my fourth Z4 3.0 and love this car. Why would anyone desire to look else where for a fun, fast and damn good looking roadster. I drive this beast in steptronics all the time and rev her high which she appears to enjoy. Oh, and don't forget to remove the foam inserts in the intake /firewall flex pipe. I'm hoping someone can shed some light and provide next steps towards resolution. Chris in CT.... Last edited by Malibu111; 06-28-2022 at 01:44 PM.. |

I had a recurring issue on a M52 2.8 Z3 I had forever and its been so long I can't remember if it ever got solved. It may of been a sensor or perhaps intake boot related. Will try to dig deep in the memory.
It doesn't go away once car is fully warmed up?

If you haven't already… download INSTAD and purchase cable for it. Then read the codes (memory codes as well)…. Clear and then run car and see what active codes reappear. Diagnose those those codes using INSTAD and look at the causes/solutions recommended and go from there.
If I remember correctly there is something in the rear bumper that can cause the fault. I never had to go that far (gas cap replaced) when I had that issue, but remember that particular "device/whatever it was" as a potential cause.

Go to a good mechanic.
Your system needs to be pressurised with a smoker. Much cheaper and more effective than randomly replace parts. A leak can be anywhere, might be as simple as a $1 piece of rubber hose... It's ISTA D, not INSTAD...
