Nankang AR1 Question

I've cooked the outside tread of my Nankang AR1 track tires to the point where I feel that I won't get another track day out of them. The inside tread looks fine enough to demount the tires and then mount the inside to the outside by switching the left tire to the right side and vice versa. I run a staggered setup so the direction of the tire would not be affected.

As I don't run in the rain, the so called "tread" on these are there to deflect the water. I thought this would get me through one last track day this weekend by doing this.

Is there any issue with running the inside sidewall of the tire on the outside? I've read other forums (M3) where some guys suggested doing this for AR1's.

I suggest you add a lot of camber (3-4 degrees in total) and you don't have to switch sides of the tires. As a bonus you'll have more cornering grip.

The thread pattern is symmetrical so you should be able to flip the inside and outside.
I have track buddies who flip a052 and rt660 if they have the same issue and they said the grip is the same. It's louder during street driving if the tire is asymmetrical.

Thanks for the replies. I sold off the tires and purchased Yoko A052's which I already took out for one final track day at the end of October. I will have to see in the summer whether they are a faster tire than the Nankang (according to reviews they are a bit faster for one or two hot laps).

I agree with the camber. Will be either buying Vorshlag or Ground Control camber plates. Lots of time to decide and install as the car is covered in our heated garage currently awaiting spring.

Plus I'm toying with the idea of selling it to purchase an E90 M3 or a 2016 M4.
