Z4M - No Power
I am stumped on this electrical issue. I have s 2007 Z4MR. Put it on a NOCO GENIUS5 automatic smart charger overnight since the car was sitting for awhile. Drove the car a short distance and parked it for a week. Went to drive the car today and there is no power at all. I tried jumping the car and still no power with the cables connected. Is there a main fuse that could be shot and preventing the car from receiving power from the jumper cables? I connected the jumper cables to the batter terminals and the terminal behind the engine.
The other issue is the lock to manually open the trunk does not work. |

In the e85, the trunk will not open without power to the lock. So if the battery is dead, key won't work.
Ask me how I know.

SOLVED - So I didn't realize how sensitive these cars are to jumper cables. It's wild how the car will not receive any power with cables connected. I was able to fish through the back and pull the emergency release cable to open the trunk (fortunately, I removed and never replaced the black tray years ago when replacing the top motor), pulled the battery and charged it overnight making sure the AGM setting was selected. Put the battery back the next day and the car was back to normal. My error was that I didn't select AGM on the charger and therefore the battery was not charged.

Surprised by this, sticking the hard key in the keyhole on the trunk lid and giving it a twist seems like it should work...that feels like a 100% physical mechanism. Are you saying with insufficient power to the car there is some type of lockout that prevents you from using the key?

Unfortunately, my truck key lock mechanism is broken. That's why I had to go fishing.
