^bill, kind of tight schedule tt saturday for me (work on a sat morning...), will u be able to attend the cupcake meet? it's for a charitable cause, though i'm anticipating it being a very youth-oriented event.

^bill, a certain mr mike sevel came up to personally invite me out to bmw cca's tejas chapter meetup on sat, feb 19th at bmw of austin for a tech inspection, lunch and other activities. i was attending san antonio's monthly coffee and rides meet this morning. pleasantly surprised to see ur name on the list of attendees for feb 19th so far. my consideration is the travelling distance since i'm at least 4 hours away from bmw of austin. blah....

Cool - The tech session is going to be FUN! It is pretty far away from where you are, though. It's from 0800 to 2pm on the 19th. I imagine 0800 would be hard to make - if your 4 hours away as I have done those type of rides before where leaving the house at 0300 to meet folks at 0800.
Be cool if you can make it. I would offer you a place to stay, but my house is crowded with some family from out of town over that weekend so it's going to be crazy round here. Would be cool if you can make it. The Tejas Chapter has some good folks in it, with a lot of Z3 and Z4s. and even a Z8 or two. This should be a blast too.

sincerely, thanks for the graciousness bill, but i'll be fine just making my way down somehow. not sure if i'm going to be able to make it by 0800, but i've rsvped and will be at bmw of austin on feb 19th to get to meet everyone! i would love to catch one of the z8's since i've never been graced with the privilege of seeing one in-person.

^bill, i'll only be leaving base at 6am on sat, feb 19th for the tech day at bmw of austin. have a dinner engagement the night prior so my plans to head to san antonio to stay the night friday have been scuppered. all this means i'll probably arrive at bmw of austin, hopefully in one piece , at about 10am.

todd, am probably going to the hpde at h2r as well in march. u're going to need a tech inspection as well as a helmet, and the tech day at bmw of austin on feb 19th will take care of the former. i know u're tied up tt sat though. i'm really more interested in driving solo on the track since i'm not fond of an instructor belting out comments/instructions (i fly with an instructor almost everyday and it seriously gets old, which is why flying solo is just incredibly awesome). unfortunately, won't have the necessary track time to be qualified to drive solo, so i guess i'll have to have an avid passenger

Harris Hill sounds cool - but I was told they don't allow Roadsters on the track.. so, I'm not going to to, although it may be worth it to see if I can get in with an instructor in a coupe or similar..

^bill, roadsters are allowed as long as u've got adequate rollover protection. i do not know for certain if this encompasses having a roll bar installed, or if the oem rollover loops will suffice.

Here is what I would need:
Convertibles: Convertibles are defined by BMW CCA as cars with retractable tops, whether soft-top or folding hardtop. These are the rules that have been set in place by the Tejas Chapter in accordance with the BMW CCA national standards. Every open topped car must be equipped with roll over protection. Additionally, the car must be equipped with a 5 or 6 point harnesses and arm restraints for driver and passenger. This means you need to install a 5 or 6 point harness and arm restraints for you and the instructor. Finally, the roll bar must clear the occupants' helmets by 2" in a straight line from the top of the roll bar to the top of the windshield. This will be measured before going out on track. As I have none of this.. I'm probably not heading over.

^tt's unfortunate! i think different organizer's have different requirements for hpde's though, so u might still check with the tejas management on what's absolutely going to be required for roadsters. if anything, u can still come out and i'll let u have a go in my coupe!?

WOW! THANKS for the offer! I may try to come out anyway. I can, possibly, get some fast rides in with an instructure in there car anyway, so that would be cool. It's the BMWCCA (thus tejas chapter) that requires all of the stuff above on Roadsters. I can completely understand the requirements for an organization to be 100% on safety first. So, as much as I hate it, I'm OK with it.
Will need to see once it gets closer and I understand work for that week as March is iffy for free weekend!

todd, inspection II will definitely count, and is far more comprehensive than what u'll require for a simple tech inspection. u must procure the form, http://www.tejaschapter.org/techinspection.pdf, and have it signed off during ur inspection II itself.
