Anyway, let's plan for a Sunday morning caravan to Monterey from San Joae area. Leaving around 6:30AM usually works for me when I have to drive down to Laguna the morning of a track day. NCRC is so chillax and awesome that they don't require lame 7AM driver's meetings. Their 8AM meetings are much more accomodating for those that like to sleep in a bit more |

Anyone else get their registration package today?
There are two solo groups: green and blue. Krissi is in the green group. I'm in Point-By (thought I signed up for Solo, but oh well, I usually run in PB, so I'll just take it easy the first session and learn the track). For those of you new to the track, I've found a pretty good instructional video that teaches the line, and provides a lot of other good information. Lon, if you have time, and have any commentary or points of disagreement with the instruction here, please let us know (I know you have finals). |

PM and let me know where you stay. Some late night beers and then decent sleep would be good, especially if it will be a wet track.

That is, in part at least, Laguna's noise regs at work - they don't let the noise begin before 9am. Lon, have you seen that Laguna is shifting to a 90dB limit early next year?

Another good instructional video - I also have a written instructional on Laguna from PCA that I can email to anyone who is interested - I can't find it online anymore. Last edited by CalRick; 12-18-2012 at 10:41 AM.. |

If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to build a racetrack that can operate day AND night! It'll be nicely lit for night events and the track will have its very own paramedics/fire squad to meet all safety regulations/sanctions, and people working the facility 24/7. I'd make it very reasonably-priced too. This way youngsters with the need for speed can get their fix (OFF public roads) day or night. It'd probably have to be out in the boonies somewhere in order for there to not be any sound regulations however Ron, as for the instructional video, I watched it when Krissi originally posted it on Facebook, and I think it's overall decently spot on, especially for those new to Laguna. As Rick mentioned, most hosted events use the bike entry, foregoing turns 1 and 2 when coming out of the hot pits/pit lane. Also, sometimes track exits are designated elsewhere, as opposed to the usual/typical exit between 10 and 11, just before the final lefthander turn. I also personally take a double apex at turn 2 as opposed to the single that the video recommends, as I feel most comfortable beginning my turn-in early after the long front straight and winding down the lefthander kink at "turn" 1. The single apex is more of an attack line actually, whereas a double apex is a defensive line. As in tennis, I've been taught early on to build an offensive game starting from a spectacular defensive game. But it's just my preference. You guys can test out different lines when you're actually out there. On wet days, it's the perfect opportunity for slower speeds; which will help reveal line options as you have some bit of extra "scenic" (lol) time while passing through each corner Last edited by mfanatic325; 12-18-2012 at 11:22 AM.. |

Thanks CalRick. Excellent! Thank you for posting.
Yes, it is the noise regs at work with the later driver's meeting. Thill driver's meetings start earlier. Any way you could post a PDF, Word, or text document of that instructional in this thread? If you go into "Advanced", and choose "manage attachments" you can upload it to this thread. (Apologies if you know that already!) Lon, I hear yah, but even Thill, which is in the boondocks, has a noise limit now (100 DB). People have been getting black flagged there too. Although 100DB is more reasonable than 90DB. Heck, the way they're going you'll need a stock exhaust plus additional sound level dampening pretty soon! |

Thanks CalRick. Didn't know it was a PCA doc or I wouldn't have asked you to upload a copy! Glad you were able to find a link!

Lon, can you (or another caravan person) post up some details on where folks are gathering? We won't be there, but my buddy Brian (yellow S/C S2000) is in the San Jose area and will be heading down in the morning as well and would like to join up.

Lon, Mike, 6:30am may be cutting it a bit close. Gmaps says it's 1 hr 20 min to get there in light traffic--and if it's wet or it's raining that's not much leeway to get to the paddock and the driver's meeting. You probably want to gas up too before hitting the track since fuel always costs a lot more there.
Maybe 6:00am instead? There is coffee right there! |
