Lake Tahoe Drive August 4th

Hello All,

It is Lake Tahoe time again. Date is set for August 4th, 2012

Meeting spot is in El Dorado Hills:
Date: 8/4/12
Where: Starbucks, 4311 Town Center Boulevard, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762
Time: 8:30am
Depart: 9:00am on the dot to beat traffic

This is drive is one of those everyone looks forward to throughout the year. This year I am offering a few options unlike years past. Some people will be trekking from the bay or just do not want to drive that much in one day, so I have called and arranged a group rate at the Quality Inn and Suites. If you chose to do a stay overnight here is the information.

Quality Inn and Suite Lake Tahoe
3838 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA, US, 96150
Phone: (530) 541-5400

Rate is $100 for the night if we hit 10 rooms or more. If not it is $180 for the night. If you call for a room, let them know you are with the EuroSunday group and you will get the discounted rate if we hit 10 rooms.

Lunch will be at the Lake Forest buffet at Harris Casino in Nevada. As I say every year, food is OK but the views are awesome. After lunch there is, the South Lake Tahoe Hot August night event going on we can check out before the drive home.

ETA back to Sacramento would be between 4 and 6pm. This is an estimate but as usual, you can leave at any time.

To me added to my drives list, drivers.windingroads@yahoo.com

Always a fun drive! Good idea on the option to stay over too!

bump for the event. Currently there are 2 of the 10 rooms booked. We need to hit 10 people for the discount rate. You do NOT need to stay at the hotel to go on this drive. This is just a option if you wish to take it.

Bump. I talked to the manager and he has said he has no calls for rooms on the date. Make sure if you are doing the over night option to say you are with the EuroSunday group. We need 10 rooms to get the discount.

Hello All,

I am back so bumping the threads to remind people the drive is coming up soon. Please remember if you are doing the “group” overnight option to call soon and book your room. I know there are some participants staying the night but have their own accommodations. It sounds like there will be a good group of you for those who will be staying the night.

I will be leading the drive there and back as the wife and I cannot stay overnight unfortunately. And those who were wondering.. Yes I am bringing the 1M on this drive.

Reminder the drive is this coming Saturday. If you are doing the overnight option, remember to call in ASAP.

Note I have a new email address as yahoo kept flagging my emails as spam. New email is norcal.drivers@gmail.com if you wish to be added to my drives list.

BAY AREA CARAVAN

First I like to note I am not leading a bay area caravan to Ed Hill. As this is on multiple threads I figure I offer a idea for everyone to meet up.

Meet at the Peets Coffee at: 5959 Shellmound Street #85, Emeryville, CA
LEAVE there no later than 7:10am
Google said 1:44 to get to Ed Hills but there will be no traffic so speeds will be faster. That should put you there by 8:30am when everyone else will be arriving.

See some of you Sat =)

I have questions!!! Lots of them!!!

No, actually I don't. 'Kitty and I will be there. This is a very fun drive (I've done it several times), and it's great chance to get away from things for a day.

If you have a 2 way radio, please bring it. We use these to keep the group together and to provide notification of road conditions (pine cones, squirrels, bicycles) as we drive.

You had to mention squirrels didn't you. It was not my fault that one ran down the middle of the lane and did not dart to the side. He played chicken and lost...

I really wasn't thinking of that little guy. Abby is so squirrel focused that I always consider them I guess.

But yeah, I do remember that from the drive in May. You probably didn't see the suicide note from the little guy before he jumped in front of you. I saw it though. On a cardboard sign on a tree--saw it when I drove by after the "incident". It wasn't your fault.

We are both really looking forward to this drive. It will be so nice to get away from other things for awhile and just enjoy cars, friends, outdoors, buffets, and fun!

My turn today on the squirrel front. Little guy ran across the road in front of me, was safe in the other lane, then stopped and turned around and ran back under my front driver's side wheel. Crap!

I've got some clean-up to do tomorrow.

On another front, huge turnout for the drive today, which was a lot of fun. It was a really nice drive through the Sierra on some great back roads. Double the number of cars of previous years. Given the great turnout, the plan for next year is to split things into multiple run groups with multiple drive leaders. That will make it a lot easier for M3Dragon (and other drive leads) to manage the large number of cars.

On a less fun note, it was a max enforcement by the CHP from Tahoe on 50 through Placerville (the drive home). And that was not so fun for many. 5-7 MPH over, in the passing lanes (where they set speed traps), was enough to get nailed. I was lucky and avoided being pulled over. (There are times when being behind a mini-van or Prius is actually a plus. This was one of those times.)

I wanted to make it out there Ron, but sometimes, there is just too much going on. I am glad that you guys had fun, even at the price of a squirrel.

Does that mean that some of the guys/gals, got pulled over?

Sean, totally know what you mean! That was me the past two weeks--it's been nuts since we were at Thill! There will be another one another day.

Yes, several cars were ticketed. All on the way home down 50 after the actual drive was over. I counted 10 CHP (that I could see that is). Not a day to drive much more than a Prius like pace.

Great to see a lot of you for the Tahoe run. We had about 45 cars go on the drive which was more than i was expecting. This made for some logistics issues and a few people missed a turn to continue to the "fun section" of the drive. Overall great mix of cars from BMW, Porsche, Ford GT, Lotus, Viper, R8, and even a McLaren mp4-12c came out.

Please send me images so I can make a album to share with everyone across the forums and my email list.

I am planning the next drive for the weekend of the 18-19th. I am not sure which day yet but I will as usual start a new thread as well as send a email to those on my drives list.

The bimmers were so quick that the MP4, Fisker, and GT40s, couldn't keep up - did they even make it to Tahoe?

They missed a turn because they got WAY behind for unknown reasons. They went strait to Tahoe and were there a hour before the main group.
