The incident that involved the safety car and Franz Engstler’s BMW on the second lap of Pau’s Race 2 was investigated by the panel of the Stewards. The investigation ascertained that, although the FIA Race Director had started the safety car procedure alerting the marshals for waving the yellow flags and showing the SC boards, the safety car driver had not been given the go. He left the pit lane on his own, steering in the middle of the track instead of using the acceleration lane.

who the gawd damn morron that released safety car into the racing line 2 seconds before the pack arrived. if first one would not have gotten it, someone else would've. idiot.

Stop ripping on the SC driver guys - blame the race director! Its not the SC driver choice to get out, he is told go, he goes.

Even if he was told to leave at the wrong moment....if he use the acceleration lane (not to cross the white line) and stay away from the race line....it wouldn't happen...

instead...be cut across the track and collide with the BMW....

usually once the cars sees the SC...they will slow down if possible....

just like Singapore GP last year....the pit exit was right on the apex of turn 1....i remember a renault or williams was about to turn in when the SC deployed...

oh, the SC driver wasn't released? i missed that bit. Well fack him then!

But i meant that it looked like blind corner and no cars were visible. So i figured - the release him into blind corner, the sc driver has no visibility of it. So, the SC driver HAS to rely on race director - and therefore I assumed he relied on a bad call. This is not a street with cop - not even close. the speeds and reaction times are totally different. And its a track with rules, rules that if people follow - work. Or if they don't - things end in accidents. As this case proves.

I agreed to a certain degree that this is a race track in which case, everyone involved in the event must always be extra careful. Also agreed with rules, which clearly the SC driver did not follow when he did not use the acceleration lane and dived accross the race line (who is the idiot here-as Trump would say "you're fire")

There are several lines of safety built into a race event, 1) SC must be release and 2) he must follow racing line exiting the pit. He follow none of them (yike he must have woke up on the wrong side of bed that morning).

or he just woke up and cross the bed and get off on the other side....glad he didn't cause any accidents on his way to work....

"wtcc" You may also want to try "wtcc 2008" (or any other year). I'm sure someone's posting entire races somewhere but I haven't tracked them down.

Another, similar series is "btcc" (British touring car championship).

There's also a fun little btcc anniversary video from the Top Gear guys:

Another that I think was posted here at one point is Plato's (one of the the Fifth Gear hosts) save in a recent BTCC race:
