Z4 Hardtop Install instructions

Hey guys,

How easy or difficult is it to install the hard top? Do I need to buy any additional parts or need any specific tools? Does anyone have instructions?

Thanks in advance .

If you already have the hardtop mounts/prep kit then you just drop the softtop and lift the hardtop on and lock it into place.

Installing the prep kit isn't to hard, but you may have to bend some metal a little bit to remove a couple bolts.

Thanks psygnosis. I'm not sure if it comes with the prep kit, as I'm picking up a used hard top off a 2004. I'll find out when I pick it up this week. Does anyone have a copy of the step by step instructions?

If you don't have the mounts already on your car you can't really use the Z4 to go pic up the hardtop. It's about a half an hour install per side if you know what your doing. More then double that if you dont.

Chances are the hardtop wont come with the mounts. The thread I linked to has the instructions in it. A little more reading would have provided you with the part numbers for the two mounts. There are also little plastic pieces that go on the trunk hinge to make sure it doesn't open to far and hit the hard top.

Parts 9 and 10 are what you need http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...54&fg=20&hl=36

Also there are covers to go over the locks behind the seats, and an allen key to move the locks.

As for putting the top on the car once you have the mounts in place, it's damn easy, you just need two people.

Here is the thread I used to install on my Z4. Piece of cake. Read through the instructions a few times then when you get into it it will go fast. First side 30 minutes, the second side maybe 15.

oh hey, the pictures are working again, wish I had those when I did mine.

Pro tip: don't pull that big molded rubber piece up from the outside edge of the car, it's really hard to get it to stick back in place.

I was there with Misterawa and it was hot as hell. The hardtop was in excellent condition, there was no damage to the interior lining, no dents or major scratches to the exterior finish. Great Buy!!

The installation went well. The hardtop looks awesome with the overall appearance of the car, especially with the black powder coated
rims...

Thanks to ebay, I found a hardtop at a great price! It wouldn't have been possible without 1st Knight's help and his attention to detail...especially during the install at 108 degree weather, directly under the hot a$$ sun. 1st Knight also help me get the prep kit for free...thx buddy!
I cant wait till the next mods

I don't blame you. The hard top with the aero kit is an amazing combination. BTW, I like the headlights and color of your Z .
