Curious how noisy this kit will be. I've heard so many different stories about those clutch/flywheel kits. Don't know what to think about it

So it being the off season, I took my car today to the shop, with a boot full of parts and what-have-youse..

doing new lightweight single flywheel clutch (thx for posting Alex) (semi dry clutch, Duke style, complete with Duke sounds) with HD race clutch and px plate. New Luk throwout bearing, and rear caber arms by RE. (thx Ian) Also new CAE rear diff mount bushes (Poly 75) (thx Alex) and a rear diff complete over haul...

New OEM RCABS with Turner Limiters..

been a while assembling parts, hopefully I wont get a heart attack when I see the rebuild bill.

As per the use, nothing really ever goes to plan..

another fuckup.

Bought a new racing clutch kit as as midway through the last session, there was slippage in 5th and 6th.

New JB Lightweight racing flywheel along with Clutch and PX plates. frikkin great when they send you the wrong pressure plate. my fly wheel part number is 520-180-240 and parts with 883082001243, not the Z3m version of 883082999792.. normally I wouldent give a shit, but my car is in pieces at the shop, and its not like the things come from your local auto-pro, I have to get these parts all the way from LA. (Thanks Alex ) My fault though, should have checked the part numbers when it arrived here.

on the upside, new RE X-pipe inbound.

The solution atm is to bolt together the LW flywheel, New racing clutch plate and the stock pressure plate, lining them up together it looks like they are made for each other. JB 520-180-240
does recommend stock pressure plate, but can also be used with the 883082001243 which is the E46 M3 pressure plate. (just some notes for others, as Turners doesn't have a clue and still waiting for a response from them)

Vanne,

the RE X pipe sometimes has the right tip/end shorter than the left - by about 1/2". You might want to address that while you're waiting on other parts. Also it might rub on the black plate underneath. I smashed mine with a hammer and made indents in order to fit. Some says you can twist the X pipe a bit to fit. I couldn't figure it out.

Just trying to help with the things that frustrated me when I was working on my car.

Apart from that car looks great. And please feedback on the clutch flywheel combo.

Cheers

Good to see someone post this regarding the RE x-pipe.

I have been looking to purchase one and had recently learnt about the fitment issues which shocks me that they would put a product out to the market that doesn't fit properly without modifications..

What would be the 2nd logical choice for owners looking for a x-pipe? Supersprint with adapters?

There's also one from AFe but I don't think I have ever seen a review so not sure how it fits or performs..

Sorry for the thread jack Vanne

Yeah def fitment issues, but I guess I was one of the lucky ones, mine fit pretty much perfectly. and I have the other hangers to absorb a bit of the offset. so no dramas on my setup. Ill have to get under the car again, as at certain twists of the power train, I can hear a sound underneath, so might need to get it back on the lift and have a look. aside from that, yeah mine fit fine, BUT I DO know others have had fitment issues.

Lol Clutch....

Yeah big fuckup with Turners, they put the Z3m pressure plate in my basket, so on checkout they sent me that. It all depends on which flywheel you have, mine 520-180-240 onlyfits with stock px plate or the 883082001243 plate. return going on in progress, trying to sort out a fair go in regards to shipping costs for the return/resend.

2 things come to mind...

1. its bloody noisy!!!
2. the pickup is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really love it.. nfi about gains or losses, but the pickup really is THAT much different!

not sure if its the rebuild rear end or just the xpipe/clutch combo, but yeah no regrets... LOVEIT!!

No dramas

SS Xpipe is nice too, but yeah you'll need adaptors, or a genius with a welder.

What would you say would be a fair % of noise level increase with just the addition of the x-pipe?

10% (Marginal) / 30% (Just right) / 50%+ (Obnoxious)

hmm, its not so much the increase in noise, but the "band" in which you have to drive has become noticeably smaller. if your in the "wrong" band, its punishing and as you said, obnoxious. if your in the "correct" band, its heaven, and compliments everything together.

my box is being dropped again as we speak to put in the correct sachs race pressure plate, once thats back together, ill get some track miles on her and then give you a proper review.

but just quickly, boy its AWESOME!!!
