Z4 ///M @ Laguna Seca (Gran Turismo 5)

In anticipation for a Laguna Seca track day on 10/20, I've started practicing in Gran Turismo 5. I've set up my car as close as possible to real life.
  • Ride height lowered -14mm Front, -20mm Rear (max in game)
  • Alignment Front: -2º 1mm toe-in; Rear: -1.5º 2mm toe-in
  • Semi-Racing exhaust (simulates R.E. Diablo)
  • Sports Medium/Soft tires (simulates Hankook Ventus V12)
  • Manual Transmission (H-Shifter, not paddles)
  • Logitech G27 steering wheel
  • Seat rig for steering wheel

Best Lap: 1:39.625
10/17/2012: 1:41.526

VIDEO:
  • 1st Lap: Warm-Up with Auto-Camera
  • 2nd Lap: Best Lap with In-Car Camera

1:47 has been my personal best @ Laguna in real life, including upshift and lift off between turn 5 and 6 to pass sound check. My personal goal is to reach 1:45 in the next year or two lol...

I haven't gotten my hands on a copy of GT5 yet, although I already borrowed a console and a Logitech G27 wheel & pedal set, so I'm good to go as soon as my friend gets around to lending me his copy of the game xD

^ Very interesting considering your mods. My car in-game is near stock and our times are significantly different. Then again, my time above was automatic transmission and a controller can give an advantage. I'm excited to see how it plays out with the wheel.

Dammit! You guys keep finding MOAR things for me to spend money on! Rotors, seats, games.

Seriously, looks pretty damn cool, and this is the thing that might finally push me over the edge to buy a game console.

BTW Lon, seat install is in the works. Should have the mounting hardware in a week or so, and I hit Mike up for his "custom install kit" hardware (bolts, washers) and seat (which I really liked last weekend).

haha well you don't feel anything in a game, so it's much easier to go fast and push harder. In real life, I wouldn't want to push anywhere close to how I would in virtual reality, as I wouldn't want to lose my life/car. No restart/reset in real life

I recall getting around 1:20s the last time I played GT5 using a bone stock M coupe at Laguna, but there's no way that's possible in real life unless you don't have to worry about dying or totaling the car. Fear will take over control well before you hit each corner haha

Ron, racing online is soooo much fun when you race with a mature outfit. It'll tide you over between track days. And learning all 50+ turns of Nurburgring is worth the price of admission alone. You're looking at around $600 for the full setup (not including PS3). I've probably clocked 500 hours on mine so price/hour is worth it.

Not done shopping yet, but, hmm. I did like yours a lot for fit and comfort, might want to meet up one more time before I order, especially if I end up taking this seat thing to 11.

Yeah, I do need something to tide me over. The addiction is pretty well ingrained now.

Haha so my memory served me incorrectly. I finally got my hands on a copy of GT5 for free, and at the first opportunity to purchase an M coupe, I went to Laguna Seca for a practice run. Could only pull a 1:38 (not 1:20s like I had remembered) best time in bone stock form, using "sports: hard" tires. Will try to modify it as close to my car as possible and report back with new best lap time

LoL @ 10 second faster lap times when compared to real life personal best...and the car in the game was bone stock at that -_-
Goes to show the sheer amount of disconnect between virtual and reality. If only I had one of those multi-axis rotating simulation game seats

I haven't played much lately, since I've been busy with school. But earlier just before dinner, I did a quick 2-lap practice session with an M coupe modified as close to my real car as possible, and I got a 1:36 or so. lol again, pretty ridiculous how much of a difference there is in lap times between real life and virtual/gaming

I don't remember my exact mods (since I can't play the game anymore), but my most recent run was 1:36:xx , so you're close! Though I only ran stock setup for one session, then "modified" setup for one session as well :P

^ All assists off? Plus using a controller is way easier

ABS on, with all other aids off, just like in real life when I go to Laguna
I was using a G25 wheel and pedal set.
I disagree though...a controller is tougher to drive with :/
