BMW Films - Z4
These were out years ago. I was hunting for them to send to a new Z4 owner and it occurred to me that depending on when some folks here got into the Z, they may not have known about it. I think there was another one, but I didn't see it this time around.
In any event, there's an oddly high production value to them and worth the watch if you haven't seen them. I have the actual DVD of these films. You are correct, very high production values, look like actually movies, albeit short stories. The one with James Brown and the Devil was a hoot

I have the DVD as well.
M5 one with Madonna was the best out of the bunch.

These use to be available on DVD, which you could find on eBay for around ten or fifteen bucks. They may still be there.
In the special features, they show how they did some of the stunts for The Hire. Suffice it to say, the Z4 that started that big jump took quite a hard smack on landing and its a different car that zips away after that. Wow, people are actually selling those?
I have the entire DVD and I'm pretty sure I got it for free somehow through a mag or BMW. (I store it in my christmas vacation case LOL)

Apparently these films work. After seeing the one on the Z4, I was hooked and determined to eventually buy one.

I have the DVD as well. BMW was giving them away for free (plus shipping) on the official website that streamed the short films (bmwfilms.com, now re-directs to bmw site). Got mine in 2005. Awesome set of short films. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hire

I've got a few of them.. there were 2 series IIRC. The one with Don Cheadle was filmed up here in Auburn, CA.
