Market check: Z4MC vs Z4MR
This is nothing new - the market for coupes has always been hotter for coupes than for roadsters. Why? Because the coupe is rarer? Better track weapon? Better looking car (to some)? Probably some of all of this, maybe other factors too.
But it's not like the roadster is an inferior car. It seems like the price gap is widening - making roadsters a ridiculously great buy right now. For example... Nice coupe, 43k miles, hammers for $42k yesterday at BaT, despite potentially value-sapping features like dark sepang interior paired with Interlagos, Madeira wood trim, & nav... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2007-bmw-m-coupe-11/ Today, a beautiful Imola roadster, only 25k miles, hammers for $24,500. Talk about an awesome buy! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...-m-roadster-9/ If this keeps up, I gotta find a place to park a roadster at home, to go with my coupe. So much bang for the buck.

I think you nailed the reasons:
The coupe is about 40% rarer (1800 or so coupes to 3k roadsters). Since the car was designed as a roadster first, when you add the roof the torsional rigidity increases significantly. The roadster has something like 14,500 Nm/deg, which is still pretty good, for example a 996 porsche convertible only has 11,600 Nm/deg. The coupe has 32,000 Nm/degree. Because of the stiffness and the roof, it is definitely a better track weapon. I sometimes wonder if I should've bought a coupe, it's very tempting. But then I put the top down and drive and remember why I fell in love with the car i the first place. Wish I had an unlimited garage and/or budget. I'd get a matching sepang bronze coupe to go with the roadster.

25k isn't bad to me. I paid 29k for my '06 back in 2009 (just like the one sold except its under 21k miles has aluminum trim and no navigation). I have no issues selling for 25k if I needed to. $4k for 11yrs of enjoyment isn't bad.... Amazing value for anyone wanting one for sure.

Iirc one of the magazines did a comparison between the two and found performance (including road course) to be about the same, can’t find it rn. I think it was road & track? Just comes down to preference imo, more people want the coupe
Take this with a grain of salt, best I could find in a couple minutes of googling https://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/amv1ls03mizg

So my conclusion is that this is a GREAT time to buy a roadster. I don't see how the prices can stay down forever. E46 M3 prices are starting to get crazy. Anything with an S54 under the hood should be becoming more and more desirable as time goes on, and as the motoring experience continues to get dumbed down in new cars.

IMHO, there're just more coupe people than roadster people in general. Not everyone like convertibles.
Then there're drivers in the nortern part of the country that roadster just don't make sense. On top of that, there're less coupe than roadster produced.. In general, coupe fetch more than roadster in any brand.. Just my 2 cents..

Personally, I was dead set on a Roadster because it provided a top down experience, which is another layer than the Coupe cannot provide, not to mention I think it looks just as stunning as the Coupe with the top down. I also couldn't justify having to pay something like $8-10k more for a coupe.

The roadsters are definitely undervalued for what they deliver, and they're now the cheapest way to get a car with the S54. I recommend them to anyone who tells me they're looking for an E46 or something similarly analog.
My search started with E46 M3 coupes, but their prices were already crazy. Then I turned to Z4 M roadsters. I got PPI's on 2 but they needed too much work and the sellers weren't willing to work on the price. Then a well maintained, 66k mile coupe in my perfect spec (Grey paint, Red interior, no nav) popped up near me for a reasonable price. I'm really glad I went for the coupe. I already have a roadster (supercharged Miata) so the coupe is a completely different driving experience. And the styling is killer!

I got my coupe 3 years ago for $17k with ~117k miles on it. Now it has 155k miles and kbb trade in is about $10k lol. But I don't care b/c I'm not selling it, I love it.

Probably due to the demand of people wanting more Coupes. In addition, Coupes in general are suppose to be a stiffer chassis for track. Other than lower production.
Personally, I prefer the top down. Call it Spyder, convertible, PRHT, or Cabriolet I'll take any. The driving experience for me is way better especially at the track. However, the Z4MC is still a great looking car and wouldn't mind having one in the future. |

Coupe 4 the Track
I went with the coupe because I want something besides my helmet between me and the pavement in the event of a roll over. Rear visibility is terrible and it's not a practical daily driver but it's a fun track toy.
