Z4c 3.0 si for M235I

Hi I would like your opinion, should I let go of my z4c for m235i? I'm not sure how reliable turbo engine and maintenance after. Just thinking of upgrading. Thanks

Not sure about reliability and maintenance over the long term, but the M235i is about the most comparable to the Z4 as I have driven. It is not quite as sporty, IMO, but it is quick and feels like a BMW.

We only have ~25k on the M235i and I have ~96k on the z4 3.0si but neither have had any problems so far!

edit: I personally wouldn't consider it an upgrade, more of a tradeoff.

My wife and I owned a 228i Msport (MT) for 3 years, fantastic car but it feels a lot more like a sedan than it does a sports coupe or GT car. The 2 series is night and day a better car to spend time in daily, but it will never be as special on the weekend.

If you can swing both I would highly recommend it!

Just park both cars in the driveway and ask passers-by which one gets their attention. Hands-down it will be the Z4 coupe.

I spent some time driving an M2 today and seriously considered the same swap. I'm going to be downsizing to one car for the first time in a long time and the 2-series is a strong contender.

I had a 2007 Z4C SI from 2009 until 2013 (the longest I have ever owned one car). It was a manual. I loved that car.

I now have a 2018 M240i Xdrive.

Do you care about turbo lag? the n52 is such a great engine, buttery smooth, great low end torque and instant throttle response and great sound. I am not a huge fan of the n55. I find it quite laggy, though it does sound pretty good for a turbo.

If this is for a fun weekend car, then I think it's a no brainer, keep the Z4C, a much more engaging car, unless you are a real turbo person. I dislike turbos (although my hate has begun to lessen).

if it's for a fun reliable daily driver then maybe an m235i makes sense, but if you can swing the m240i, I like the b58 much more than the n55, the b58 is buttery smooth, very eager and less laggy.

so overall...keep the Z4C

I personally would never cross shop those two cars based on my needs. If you need more comfort, storage space and back seats the M235i hands down. If I wanted a compromised for sport car I'd look elsewhere.

Have both; now we're talking. Though if you're like me after having the engine performance of the M235i you'll be looking to trade the Z4 for an ///M version because like women don't like going down in lifestyle when they switch men I don't like going down in engine when I switch cars. Kind of like having Jennifer Aniston and having to settle once and a while for Courtney Cox.

Very nice cars hawkeye. And i like that sportsbike. Same setup i want for my garage someday. I had a ninja back then but sold it before getting married and now i missing it, kinda regret letting it go.

Im not really sure if i am ready to go turbo..the sound of turbo is fun but not sure about the lag but im sure its something i can get used to...

A mechanic friend from BMW told me to stay away from turbo because it cost too much to repair after warranty unless i am willing to pay...

I asked him what he thinks of M235i and he simply said "dont" but then again...buying a luxury car comes with that price...

I guess i am more concern about reliability/dependability of turbos. I just dont want headache, especially with those price tag. love the z4c and mines is manual...N52 is simply amazing engine..

For now ill get the wife a car she wants after all, the z4c was a gift from her...

Thanks for all the input.

That's a tough decision. I was cross shopping a 135i and M235i and ended up going the 135i route. It was 2 years older with the same miles, but $8,000 cheaper. A smaller price Delta I would have gone with the M235i probably.

With that said the other car in the garage is a Z4C 3.0si. that is my wife car and I can drive it on the weekends. If I only had to have one I don't know if I could sell the Z4C. I just love the looks of it too much. Practicality for me is about equal as both can fit two people and two cats. The 1er or 2er is slightly more practical.

I would look at going to a 1er and get both! You can even go cheaper if you get a little older/more miles. I landed on a 2013 135i with 36k miles.

I've owned both. I posted a few comments and pics in an older thread:

https://www.zpost.com/forums/showpos...13&postcount=6

I strongly prefer the Z4MC over my M235i, but I have the luxury of not daily driving the Z and I think that has a lot to do with it.

The Z4MC is simultaneously the best and worst car I've ever owned. It's incredible when you get an empty stretch of road, rare, fast, everything it does is mechanical and immediate. It's also comically small, miserable in traffic, and parts just continue to get more expensive and harder to find. Also, everyone I know refers to it as the penis car, but hey your mileage may vary.

No matter how you slice it they are VERY different cars, and I can't speak to your individual needs. I've heard very good things about the 228 being a more balanced daily driver if you're set on a 2'er. Frankly I think the regular old 330 is also a great car (my wife has a 330 wagon) and if I had to downsize to just one car I'd probably end up with a 340xdrive.

Go drive all the things and make the decision that's right for you.

I'd be curious to hear their thoughts on the E89, which was designed entirely by women.

Nothing like a Z in my opinion but not everybody has the space to just park one for weekend use. If you need 4 seats you gotta do what you gotta do.

Maybe that is why it is so much bigger and bloated...

M240i

I own both an E85 3.0i for summertime fun as well as a 2011 328xi as my bad weather driver. I have been test driving cars lately to replace the 328 and took the M240i out for a drive and it won me over. I plan on keeping the convertible but I really didn't see it as a lateral move. The two cars are very different. The acceleration and handling on the 240 was just amazing!.
