Vibration above 7000 RPM in 3rd gear
I changed the oil and on a max acceleration run, I noticed a metallic vibration/rattle from the engine around 7000rpm, until red line. Almost like that sound from a CSL airbox when the valve opens, but it is a bit disconcerting because I've never noticed it before. I do believe the oil is a bit overfilled, so I will remove some today and check it out.
Any ideas? (2007 Z4MC with almost 63k miles) Thanks, Brian |

Many possibilities, impossible to tell without hearing it (video/audio).
Crazy but not really horrible possibilities: A. Strut tower to firewall bolts are loose. There are two types. The older nut on fixed bolt needs locktite. There's a thread/post I did on this ages ago with torque specs. B. Motor mount(s), mount bolt(s). C. None of the above Keep this thread updated as more info is gathered |
