Hey all fellow Z4M'ers, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the max. speed in each gear. I did a search but couldn't find anything. TIA

I think I get ~70mph at redline in 2nd gear. Anything after that determines how fat the speeding ticket is.

Since the chart only goes up to 150...it's off the chart.

Are we looking at different charts? The chart I am looking at shows 5th gear, 8K RPM hitting 171.

Why do you ask? Isn't the car slower in sixh gear, because it's got a .85 ratio, compared to 1.00 in fifth gear? At max rpms, the wheels are turning 15% fewer revolutions than in fifth. Good for fuel economy, for speed, not so much.

If you want the car to go faster than 170 than you'll need 6th.

That cuz of 2 reasons.
1. 8180 is past your redline 2. I'm sure the chart was made measuring wheel speed in each gear, and it doesn't factor in wind resistance.

I thought, but someone who understand this stuff needs to keep me staight here, that the principle was that the higher gear meant the rear wheels made more revolutions at the same RPM than the next lower gear. Isn't your math backward? If you carry the math in the tables out to a .85 gear for 6th, then the RPM/10 miles per hour for 6th gear is 396.5, MPH/1000 RPM is 25.22068 and top speed in 6th gear at 8000 RPM should be 201.76544.........theoretically speaking..... |

Basically in overdrive the engine will run out of twist before it runs out of revs.
