It's the opposite, you should get it tuned right away so it doesn't adapt. You want it to adapt to the new tune, not the old one.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm waiting to drive the car around for about a month to let the car fully adapt. Since most of us don't put a ton of miles on this car it takes a while to put several hundred miles on it. But don't worry some time in August I'll be going back to the dyno place and will add to my thread I started with my other baseline dyno's before the Evolve ECU.

Is anyone else still waiting to receive their tuned file back? Has anyone heard updates from Evolve?

quick question:

i haven't sent mine in yet to get tuned. i have headers that are waiting to be installed. is the "catless 02 ready tune" available for our cars?

Basically, does this mean they are always "ready" and i can install my headers without having to relocate my 02 sensors?

so i squeezed in a dyno this morning at a local shop. it wasn't the most professional place but i got a dyno.

numbers look pretty strong for baseline on a dynojet.

i'll update in a week or so when i get the after dyno. i figured it would be good to let the car adapt over a hundred miles or so?

first run the speed censor was dirty and he had to clean it.
second run i had some good hp.
third run hp decreased a little but the torque curve improved.

can't wait to see how the tune cleans it all up.

Hey Guys, I'm intrigued by this. I picked up an '06 M Roadster (Canada) recently, and this looks very very interesting. I've read most of the thread, and one thing that caught my eye (sorry for the slight thread derail) is that the stock ECU has updates from the dealer? Is there any way to tell if it has the latest version? What is involved in updating the ECU to the latest "factory" firmware first?

I dislike (putting it mildly) my local BMW dealership. There is a BMW independent guy that seems decent, but would he be able to do the upgrades? Is there any disadvantage to doing the upgrade? By "upgrade", I'm referring to the stock ECU ("BMW Official" firmware). I'd like to get to the latest/(best?) version before I do any tuning.

Additionally, is there a procedure to "reset" the learned program. I know other cars have a key/throttle dance you can do to have it start relearning the driving patterns.

After getting the latest stock firmware, are there any "disadvantages" to doing this ECU tune? Obviously warranty isn't in play anymore, but what about service from the dealer?

Sorry for the noob-ness of the questions; this is my second BMW, but the first that I've considered playing with.

An ECU 'tune' will overwrite anything in there.

That is a very bold statement from Evolve. I am in the process of sourcing bungs to relocate my O2 sensors. Should I just wait it out to see if this is happening and just go with the tune rather than relocation?

that's what i did...no need to worry about the relocation if you get the tune.

yeah, i was thinking about doing that too.

but i wanted to do some dynos:
  1. Stock
  2. +Gruppe M intake
  3. +Gruppe M and SS Headers
  4. +Gruppe M and SS Headers and Evolve Tune

So it looks like i will be relocating the 02 sensors anyways.

Plenty of customers with E46 M3, E39 M5 and E92 M3's that can testify that we have done this on their cars. We haven't done it on the Z4M yet but don't see any reason why we won't be able to do it.
