Exclamation 2 day old Z4 - harmonic noise

Picked up my new Z4 roadster on Saturday moring, she is a beauty and I now have 74 miles on her. However, I noticed a harmonic pitch when steering right or turning right at low speeds. (1st and 2nd gear) It doesn't happen when steering or turning left. Anyone experience this?

A distant-sounding high-pitched whine when turning the wheel?

It's a well-documented effect of the electro-hydraulic steering rack found in the standard Z4s. The '02-'06 MINIs suffered from the same noise.

It should disappear after a couple thousand miles, as it often does. Or whenever the steering rack decides that it's been broken in.

thank you

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping it had something to do with the break-in period. Regards, dimenjj

My '03 2.5 didn't have that problem but my '04 3.0i did. The problem started occuring when the car had about 9K miles. It's got nothing to do with waiting for the parts to break in. Took the car to the dealer and they replaced a few parts and no more noise.
