New Z4 - Not new to BMW's/this Forum!

Hey All -

Picked up a 2006 E85 Roadster over the weekend - Automatic tranny with 13k miles. Gorgeous car that's been garaged it's whole life but that's about to change.

I had a F30 328i xDrive before I decided to "upgrade" to a 2020 C43 AMG. I modded the $hit out of my 3 series and loved every minute of it, including being part of these forums. After switching to the benz, I can't lie that I still miss my 3 series in certain situations, especially the community. The MB forums are full of pretentious aholes who think their $hit don't stink and this will be the last MB I ever purchase.

Anywhoooo - back to the Z4.

I've been doing some research on simple mods and was hoping to get some input...

Exhaust - Cheapest/meanest solution seems to be the back box delete. My wife will also be driving the car so I don't want to do it if it's obnoxious. Are there any valved solutions or something in the middle in terms of sound/drone?

Motor Tuning - I've seen the free tunes on bimmerlabs and also the Active Autowerks tune. I have the 3.0i and don't plan on immediately swapping out the intake manifold - Any thoughts here? Don't necessarily feel like paying $500 for 15hp but are there any other benefits to the AA tune? Open to suggestions.

Trans Tuning - Considering XHP stage 2 - The stock shifts are painfully slow and really make me miss the ZF from my F30.

Recommendations? - Anything I'm missing that's a must on a stock 3.0i? Planning on going with some Staggered VMR's like I did on my last bimmer - Seem to be a great value.

Any input is greatly appreciated and couldn't be happier to be back in the BMW family...

If you’re not going 3 stage, skip the tune all together. Just get a nice exhaust and quality set of lightweight wheels like Apex. I personally don’t like VMR. Had them way back in the day when everyone and their mother wanted convex wheels but they were heavy AF.

Thanks for the input! I’ll look into apex. Any recommendations on sizing, offset, etc?
