Escort 8500 with Case, Mount, and Smart Cord
I'm selling my old radar detector, an Escort Passport 8500 (with red display). Includes the Escort hard case, suction cup mount, a handful of suction cups, and a (new) Escort smart cord. There is one problem. Occasionally the radar detector will go into self calibrate mode and get "stuck." Normally the radar detector is supposed to run the self calibrate mode once every few months, then restart into normal mode. On occasion my radar detector will go into self calibrate, then restart in self calibrate, then restart in self calibrate, etc. It could go 3 weeks without this happening or 3 months. When it does get stuck in self calibrate, I just unplug it, give it half an hour or so, plug it back in, and its fixed. Normally these sell for around $120 used, so I'm thinking 50% off is pretty reasonable. $60 plus shipping. This radar detector is totally usable, just inconvenient on rare occasion. Looks just like this, except I don't have the manual. This is an image from google image search, not a photo of mine. Last edited by jdoublehcubed; 01-14-2016 at 07:18 PM.. |

Hey just wanted to give you a free bump and to tell others that this is a top tier radar detector, even by today's standards. I've had mine for 9 years and my brother the same and while they may occasionally act up and do something goofy it has paid itself off 1000x over. Anyone who doesn't have a radar detector right now would be a fool not to purchase this. Ditch the unnecessary case and you can fit it in a $5.95 USPS flat rate box too.

By the way, I've owned this for about 5 years. Only selling it because I got a crazy deal on a 9500. |

9500i or 9500ix?
If it is an "i" i'd keep your 8500 tbh No self cal issues just sometimes blasts an alert full blast when below freezing in the car or around airports for some reason. Thing is invincible and won't die. When it does I'll get a new radar but I don't see that happening, ever. Last edited by Bimmer_Addict; 01-12-2016 at 01:24 AM.. |
