Found a Z4 M that needs some work at a great price. So decided to take the chance. Flew out to pick up the car and drove it home (about 500 miles). Man what an awesome car! Runs and drives fantastic. Got a couple issues to work through but they don't affect drivability. Can hardly believe I own an M now…

Happy for you. I experienced the feeling of disbelief when I brought mine home too after years of wanting both an M car and an S54 and now we have both Remember that feeling anytime you need a reminder how lucky we are! (and before you think of ever selling ).

Thanks fellas. I'm still feeling the high….
The M is a 2006. Silver gray metallic with black Nappa interior. It has the carbon fiber leather trim. Stock except for rims (style 67 but I have the stock rims too), Stromung mufflers, headlights and Bilstein B6 struts/shocks. Oh and as a bonus the entire car is wrapped in the 3M paint protection so paint looks almost new. My '04 has Oregon Black leather with the aluminum trim interior which I like better, so I plan to swap the trim over. I also have Koni yellow adjustables on my '04, which I might swap over too. Though the Bilsteins rode really well on the way home from picking it up. Other than that, I plan to drive the heck out of it. It'll be my new daily. I plan to sell the '04

I may be wrong but I don't think suspension bits are a direct swap. Congratulations on the purchase! I had both for a while and vacillated when reaching for the keys. They are different animals.
EDIT: Oh and get under there and fix those exhaust cans. Those outlets need to be neater! |

Congrats, looks great. Nice the entire car is wrapped, that had to cost them a bundle. I also have the stromung mufflers and it took some time fiddling to get them adjusted perfectly so the tips were even in the cutouts. BTW, I'm across the river in MD.
Unless you already know, check out my track mode thread to give an in between mode for the driving dynamics. |

I went shopping and only got an '08 3.0 Csi, which is very zippy, as I was unable to find a Z4 M model, which must have phenomenal handling and performance. Since the M badges are modest, tasteful and discrete, why don't you look at spending another $10.00 or so on eBay, and get those snap-on stripes for the grille? As the song says, "When you've got it, flaunt it." (The Producers, 1967).

No reason to not keep both?
Depending on the current mileage, you can use the 2.5i Z4 for dailies and reserve the M for special occasion. Can't say I like the M3 wheels on the Z car though. |

You know I wasn't a fan at first either, but I have to say that they are growing on me. They also have brand new tires on them.
The stock rims have been painted black. I hate black rims. I'll need to have them refurbished. But I plan to run the M3 wheels until they need new tires then switch over.

Nice MR. I have an '06 MR with B6s. They're Bilstein's replacement for the stock M Roadster struts/shocks - firm but more compliant than stock. Keep them on. Many of us find the carbon leather trim very desirable, but up to you. I'm sure you're up to speed, or soon will be, on the maintenance differences for the S54 engine. 10w-60 oil and valve adjustments at 30k intervals, for example. Enjoy!

Yes and no. Rears have 2 specific Bilstein part numbers for Z4M and Z4. Fitment is the same but they're valved differently. Z4 rears should be slightly softer.
IMHO, Bilstein B6 are great shocks and will last a long time and also have lifetime warranty (although I am not sure how it works if you didn't purchase them yourself). They're pretty damn good on track as well. Last edited by belcom; 12-15-2021 at 12:15 PM.. |

Thanks fellas. I checked ECS tuning part numbers and indeed the Konis are not compatible. So I'll let things be. I've got 255/35-19 on the fronts and 295/30-19 on the rears, so not a lot of sidewall, and I must say the Bilsteins do ride really well.

z4 M
I acquired my 06 Z4M in June. Found it in CA, flew out and drove it back 1200 miles to Texas. It loves 80-120 on the Interstate. 6-spd standard is a hoot and was a requirement.
I am not good at finding stuff I need on this platform, but would love to be able to discuss some little stuff with other Z4 owners. I drove my '99 Z3 for 14 years, then went five years before the "itch to shift" lured me back in. Why do my forward side marker lamps not work (with new bulbs) when the rear ones do? Surely I don't have to buy those from the dealer. |

I've been too chicken to try 285/30-19 on the rear with a wheel offset of 25 and stock alignment settings - currently just running 275/30-19 Continental Extreme Contact DW on the rear
