Battery Tender Easy Hookup
My batter is from 2009, and recently had it die on me because I didn't keep it charged for a while. I have a permanent USB accessory drawing some parasitic power so that might be the reason. I was able to revive it and now I keep it on a battery tender whenever I'm parked. It was a pain in the butt to pop open the hood before and after every drive so I looked for possible solutions.
Magnetic charge ports are extremely hard to find, let alone expensive. After much research I finally decided on the basic SAE connection to my current Battery Tender. I bought the accessory terminal wires to hook up to the positive and ground terminals in the engine bay and leave the SAE end outside the hood by the driver side. I routed the Battery Tender from a wall mount with an extension wire over the ceiling and a drop-down towards the windshield. Now it's a simple matter of plugging in a SAE cable. I added a magnet on the cable so I can throw it up and snap onto the garage door rail (yellow tape) when pulling in/out as not to touch the hood. Now I no longer have a Battery Tender box or wires running on the garage floor.

Why are you trying to push your luck on a 12yrs old battery? You got more than your money's worth out of that battery!

I did something similar, but in the trunk. I was using the accessory socket for the tender, but decided to hard wire it to the battery, and just keep an extension connected to it and stored in the trunk.

I wired mine right behind the kidney grille. No need to open the hood, door or hatch, just reach through the grille slat and pull the cable out the front and plug in the charger.
