First regular oil service
So I took the M coupe in Friday to Wagner BMW in Shrewsbury MA for it's first regular oil service. Overall I feel kinda blah about the whole thing. Maybe I'm picky.
Here are my service 1. Relatively quick service. (1:30, with a wash) 2. Friendly sales people to chat with while I waited (got to check out someone's new 335i coupe getting prepped for delivery. Same color scheme as mine, must say it was pretty hot looking.) Now for the the 1. From the moment I walked in the door people called it an "M Roadster". I corrected everyone with less tact as it occured, but damn people. Its a god damn coupe, they are two different cars with different chassis and if you can't figure out what my car is called, I don't want you touching it. Even after I protested dude still wrote down M Roadster on the service sheet. WTF! 2. Parts guys were dicks. I wanted an ///M key chain cuz I just had to have it, and dude made it seem like I was being a pain in the ass for buying it. WTF? 3. The wash and vacuum. If you're gonna offer to do it, do it right. First they didn't dry it well and it got water spots all over it. Second, they vacuumed the new floor mats I have in the front, but didn't touch the boot, which could actually use it. Overall I might just be nitpicking and all, but they lost my business, I got a few other options, but they were supposed to be the best dealer in the region, now I'm a little nervous about the others. What do y'all think, am I a little over zealous to expect so much from a car dealer, or am I right in thinking that if you buy a luxury car that comes with BMW's "ultimate service", you should be a nitpicky bastard like me? Feel free to chime in.

The best advice my friend gave me was this:
"Rick, you gotta remember that you paid good $$ for the car, not the service. Expecting anything more will be a disappointment." If you're really hung up on the folks calling your (OUR) car a Roadster, then don't ever consider going to Homecoming, 'cause they still call it the Roadster Homecoming. Regarding trinkets and other stuff, you can find them cheaper elsewhere. I used to bring my car in and expect that they wash it. With the M Coupé, I'll wash it myself, thanks. I've heard of horror stories about the dealers washing the cars. After all, they wash dozens a day. Do you think they'd pay as much attention to your car as opposed to you washing it yourself? Have the dealer sort out the complicated stuff... you should take care of the rest. After all, the best work done are the ones done by yourself. |

I'd love to wash it myself, but unfortunately, living in the city doesn't really give me much opportunity to do that. I haven't been able to find an elephant wash within 50 miles of the damn city. Oh well...I'll give it some love with the quick detailer spray and it'll get nice and shiny and all will be well.
As far as the trinkets go, i'm sure i could have got it cheaper, but I was bored and i wanted it, oh well. I don't think they did that bad of a job, I just got a little irritated with some little things, enough for me to find a new stealer

My buddy is a Mercedes man. He goes on and on about how he takes his car in every Saturday morning for a wash. He truly loves the fact that they wash his car for him. I told him I wouldn't let another human being clean my windows, much less touch the paint. I spent 6 hours detailing my coupe yesterday! Different strokes for different folks.
Don't feel too bad about the dealer calling the car a roadster. No one knows what the car is. I was a little irked at first that even people I called "car guys" had no clue. "What is it....and M4?" Yeah, sure. My dealer just writes "M" on the service sheet. That's what is on my insurance card as well. I kind of like that.

Y'know, come to think of it... my insurance has my car listed as an M Coupé. No "Z"s anywhere listed. :rocks:
There was a kid one time who asked if my car was an M6. I said, "Sure." I guess it can work both ways. Speaking of washing cars... I think I might just do that today... edit: I just looked at my card... It doesn't even list it as a Coupé. It's just a 2007 BMW M Last edited by Rick Hunter; 09-23-2007 at 09:48 PM.. |

That's kinda funny, cuz my insurance has it listed as an M Roadster Coupe. At least the engineers who built the car know what it is.

I wouldn't go to the parts counter and be asking for a key chain. They feel insulted when you ask for stuff like that. It makes them feel like they work in a gift shop. I've seen it happen a few times when I went in for parts. The people that asked for novelties were treated with less respect than those actually going in there for car parts.

Both of my real cameras were MIA so I just took these with my iPhone. I got a picture of my car pre-wax drying out (at my rents house), and then one of my Bike and Car infront of my garage.

That's the keychain I wanted. But it hangs too low and tickles my knee. The keychain, that is.

Hawkeye... That's very shiny.
That keychain looks pretty good, Dammmittt. I myself went with a less traditional style keychain: |

Well...in an hour or so I'll be off to pick up my copy of Halo 3. If the line is long the deal is off. I haven't finished gears of war yet anyway. Anyone else fall into this unfortunate category?
The worst part is I spend most of my day studying or doing homework, which really sucks cuz I dunno when I'll be able play!!!

I have that keychain.. it's OK but a rip for $20. Bought it by mail, not at the stealership. If some parts counter jockey ever sneers at me over ANYTHING I choose to purchase from his fine establishment, I'll have Roger Penske personally fly in and fire his sorry ass. No excuse for that noise.
