No joy with specializedgerman.com - but very helpful, just didn't have a smashed up M around right now

Update for those that are interested:
I'm taking my M into the shop this coming Monday for them to pull the rack and pinion out of the car, ship it down to Rack Doctors to rebuild(34-48 hours upon receipt) and then they are shipping back up to my shop to install. Cost for rebuild is $499, cost to install by shop is $450. Rack Doctor has a lifetime warranty on their work. So, it looks like I saved myself around $1900 figuring on the shipping costs being a few hundred back and forth. I'll let you all know once it's been installed and the quality of the rebuild. But definitely a much better option than the $2900 to order and install from Germany on a new steering column.

Great news RDMZ4M,
This is the best choice for sure; we're hopeful the rebuild and reinstall is entirely successful.

Had to delay until this coming Monday on the Z4, the wife cracked a rim on her BMW which then turned into suspension issues that required a $3300 cure... Gotta love BMW's LOL.

She did! It was shipped down to Rack Doctor on Monday, they received on Wednesday. They completed the rebuild yesterday and have shipped it back up to my shop. So, should have her back on late Monday. Will update you guys once I get her back on Monday, but so far I've been very pleased with Rack Doctor.

Just picked her up from the shop this morning and my shop even said that Rack Doctors did an excellent job on the rebuild of the rack and pinion. Rack Doctors performed as advertised and had the r&p back to my shop yesterday after 48 hour rebuild at their shop in SC and shipped right back up. Couldn't be happier!!! Bring on Spring!

So glad this all worked out, since it was me who stumbled onto this Rack Doctor cat in the first place. I would have felt awful if he would have turned into a bad experience. But in the end, the good Doctor comes through! Now we all know where to turn if we have rack needs in the future. Awesome.

KevinC, Sir, thank you for finding the Rack Doctor! My '06, 367,000-mile E90 325i just this week lost the right-side piston seal. This morning I've been looking into the rack replacement cost. And decided to check in on the Z4 Forum... Basically, $700 from FCPEuro or $800 from BMW for ZF-rebuilds, or $189.99 from the Rack Doctor.

Guess who I'm calling on Monday. I may just pull my rack first and send it to them for a rebuild.

Thanks again. You da' Man.

Steering is much tighter than it was, actually having to get used to her all over again. Not a bad problem to have LOL

"The Rack Doctor" - sounds like some Orange County breast augmentation surgeon operating out of a strip mall in Garden Grove. But no, he's actually our hero.
