Installed my stage 1 mids and tweets this afternoon, was a pretty straight forward install. I would recommend everyone watch the part 1 and part 2 videos on youtube if you have never done any stereo work before, and they are also beneficial for little things like the screw locations and size. I managed to break only one door clip upon the re-install, didn't effect the panel staying snug. I did however break one of the plastic tabs on the tweeter housing that secures the housing to the frame.............. gonna need to get some superglue tomorrow and see if I can reattach it so the housing stays snug. A quick search of Real OEM shows that they don't sell the housing separately, it's $62.50 including the tweeter, so I hope I can glue the tab back on. Be careful removing these, the video shows you how, even so, I broke one. So many of the BMW plastic parts seem to break if you remove them. Also be careful when you remove the nuts securing the midranges. The screw heads are sandwiched between two pieces of plastic, and will wiggle and spin in you are not careful. One of mine lost grip and I was afraid I would not be able to remove the nut. I wedged a tool between the old speaker frame and the door panel that kept tension on the bolt and I finally got it off. Securing the nut back wasn't an issue.

Overall I like the sound. The mids are still breaking in, but from the small amount of listening I have done so far, I am happy with the upgrade. Oh, one more thing. I also noticed the tweeters have a little more depth to them and the tabs that hold the OEM tweets don't quite snap over the lip of the tweeter housing. Use the provided silicone adhesive to make sure the tweet stays secure. You should have no issues if you add the adhesive and allow it 30 minutes to dry. I had the chance to do some more listening today and it is a definite upgrade and good value for the price. I used to do SQ competition sound systems back in the 80's (damn that makes me feel old ) and have been a self proclaimed audiophile since the earth cooled, lol. I am also an accomplished guitarist, and would like to think I have a pretty good ear. With those qualifications out of the way ( it does sound a little pompous and I hate that), the stage one kit is more detailed and cleaner with a higher distortion threshold. The upper registers are smoother and less etched than the OEM tweeters, which I though were metal but once they were out appear to be just silver colored polypropylene. The silk domes of the stage one kit really sound nice. The bass is also improved. The mids are crossed over at 100hz, which covers the fundamental frequency of the higher notes on a bass guitar, as well as most all of the harmonics of a bass guitar. With the improved stage one mids, I heard more bass detail and less "one note boom" that we were all attributing to the Carver subs ............... I'm hearing more detail and less boom, and the Carver subs now are rounding out the very bottom end more like what they were intended to do. Of course the mids themselves are also detailed and natural sounding, with just the right amount of warmth. Don't go crazy with your DSP graphic equlizer ........... I have dropped 200hz 3 clicks, 500hz down 1 click, and raised 12,000 1 click......... all other frequencies are flat. The bass and treble controls are at the factory center position, and I have the fader 2 clicks towards the front........... YMMV.
