Thanks for the review. How much did the install run you? I'm trying to estimate an out an out-the-door price.

An engine lift is not needed. You only have to move the engine enough to create clearance for the bolts that mount the blower bracket.

It will vary depending on the shop. The local install price was quoted @ $749.00 and I was able to get it done for slightly less. I would contact your local ESS authorized shop to find out. Also, there was no tax on the install because it was all labor. This should give you a general idea

Sound from the bypass valve is minimal under normal driving conditions. Keep in mind, I am running the RPI GT exhaust. The exhaust is very loud and I do not hear anything from the engine bay unless the car is under heavy acceleration.

Quality:
I compare the ESS components to the stock parts replaced. I did not want anything over the top and flashy, but rather something that was more in tune with the clean stock look. That being said, I rate the quality a 10 out of 10. I know this is a high rating, but the ESS components are on par or better than the quality of OEM.

I have not had any issues with higher oil temps, and don't anticipate that I will with the low boost. The real test will be when I put the car on the track though.

yes i also have the rpi GT exhaust, at full acceleration/ WOT does you get any supercharger noise?? im really hoping to hear somethink up front as my rpi drowned out the stock engine sound!! your right, i think the track will be the test for oil temps, infact ill be on the track in about 4 weeks so ill be also posting up findings, im so glad your happy with the kit, i was/ still am wondering if ive made the right decision, very nervous tbh and worried about my engine going boom, but im sure itll be ok, i know ess are the best in the business. sorry for all the questions, its just nice to talk to someone whos gone my route and that can give me advice. when you get chance can you post up some detailed pics of the kit installed please. thankyou for taking the time to answer my questions.

ESS did a lot of track and high temp testing with the stage 1 kit with no issues. From my reading, people are having heat issues with stage 2, but thats still in development

No heat issue with stage 2. VT2 is intercooled...so quite the opposite.

Maybe the problem with stage 2 is that the oil cooler needs to be re-located to make room for the I/C ? I was running a gen 1 stage 3 on my M3 but that had enough room for the heat exchanger to sit in front of the OEM oil cooler, the Z4 doesn`t.

I`m sure ESS will expand but a recent post from them stated that the stage 2 for Z4 was on hold, they`d already said before that post, that the Z4 550 kit wouldn`t happen this year. Maybe this now wont happen at all as the 550 kit needed a bigger I/C again.

Maybe they`ll use the Gen 1 water/air set up as the heat exchanger is much smaller and could be fitted behind the kidney grills.

I just spoke with Roman this morning and my car will be ready very soon with the VT2-500 installed. There is no heat issue, the only problem is fitting the intercooler piping and tooling required. This is for GEN 2 VT2-500. This winter VT3 will be installed.

The new VT series uses the Vortech V3 self lubricated blower. Unlike the previous CFR series that uses an ASA blower the Vortech does not share oil with the motor. This helps to keep oil temps down under all conditions with our intercooled and non-intercooled kits.
