UPDATE!!!! ADDED 3 PHOTOS ON PAGE 2 !!
Ok I know I may get a lot of flaming or maybe not. I have decided to add something I don't think ANYONE has done before or atleast I don't think so on our cars. I am a bike rider and I do have a pupose for this not just going for looks like a lot of people now a days. This was on my previous car and I was suprised that it fit on my M Coupe. I had to think like an engineer and it took me literally 3 and a half ours to complete this project. Well I am happy to say that I am happy with the results. It is a YAKIMA roof-bike rack system. Here are the photos I will try and get better pictures later. Enjoy. Last edited by InterlagozzE86MCoupe; 01-10-2012 at 10:02 PM.. |

Please elaborate.
Been wanting to get another bike, but limited to local rides because of the bike rack. I've seen the suction cup style racks before, but their availability seems limited now, would be nice to have a solution like this! Also is it possible to take it on and off easily?

Oddly enough, while developing the new cf and clear poly roofs for the coupes, I noted several points on why BMW engineers didn't offer up a rack slot such as even the 2011 7 series receives . But I'm still working on it. Like an engineer would, lol.

In the picture you can see my bike rack, it is the black one to the left.
Steve Edit: since the old photo is gone, here is the current bike rack. Last edited by ShakyDog; 11-24-2020 at 10:47 AM.. |

Is it drilled in? How is it mounted? I don't ride but I sure would love a Cayman-esque roof rack to place a set of race wheels/tires on!

Kudos to you for doing it. Hopefully you didn't have to drill or make any permanent changes.

I remember seeing another thread like this a while back about someone putting a roof rack on the M Coupe. It was mounted on with 4 suction cups (I know, doesn't sound very safe), 2 of them were positioned on the back of the roof itself while the other 2 were positioned on the windshield. It looked AMAZING though, and I am not someone who likes the idea of roof racks in general.
Does anyone remember that thread/have a link to it ? |

I absolutely would love a roof tire rack like that! Though of putting a hitch and tire trailer on the back, but it's a bit on the "bleh" side for me.

Nope, I'm rather sure. I'm only 5'4". Geometry has a sloping top tube and uses 700s not 650s like a lot of small frame bikes. 2006 Trek 1200. Could be kid size, but it fits which is what's important.
