That looks good. Did his X3 have oem navigation?

I ended up back in a Z4M so now I will definitely be upgrading the factory navigation... I hope the baseplate covers up the entire cutout of the factory nav.

Install photos, sorry these were delay... holiday issues... lol
Cutting of top layer was easy... under the foam was tough (2-3 hours, lots of broken disc)... The lower side I was able to use a jig saw and vacuum and cut it fast, towards windshield, the tool wont fit.. I end up using the disc cutter off dremel. Cut has to be clean or flush, else it wouldn't fit okay.

I end up doing the trim also, so I pop off all the trim. I took out both vents to make it easier to take the trim off. I use the plastic pull tool, it made a minor nick on one. Trim pic 2, you need to lift that one off.. All the rest you can yank out and fish the clips with the magnet tool. I'm donating this trim to a user here for wraps.. If you use a telescope magnetic pick up tool, you can get all your clips back. Funny thing is I can't find my aluminum trim to put back..

For gps wiring, I end up punching a hole on the right door by the airbag switch to run the gps wire, once the door is close, you can't see it.. ill tug it in there. Ill use the same wire to run the power for the dash cam and the front and reverse camera. I got the HD reverse camera today and test it also. Install pic 11, seems that all the wire can hide in that section, gps wire, dash wires, etc. Below it is airbag, still researching issue. Probably hang it so it doesn't go lower.

Still working on
-Magnetic/metal behind trim to use a magnetic mount
-Front camera, there isn't really a way to signal it, i order a dual rca input controller switch for cameras
-12v usb C pd hard wire
-Rear camera install & wiring
-Rear dash cam 12v hard wire also.
-Rear flood led lights

Doing trim also

One thing I forgot to mention is the android nav unit has rear camera lines and etc, looks like its static overlay.. i end up disabling it all.

There camera I order was basic camera Full HD version, $15 dollars, took 8 days to show up. This fits in the license plate light area.. Ill have to verify that.. I orignally have a non hd camera, I figure ill do an upgrade

I take it the baseplate is smaller...is that why it would be more difficult right?

Not the plate, the original wiring for navigation unit is different then non nav. I have not seen it but I did find a few seller that has units for navigation unit and they were 200-300 more expensive. I can't comment on why, but that is what they are selling the units for navigation. Plus several sources including the place I bought it from says these unit are not compatible with factory navigation cars. They offer no detail so I assume different wiring is the issue. I never seen one so I cant help, plus the ali express English is bad, I need a Chinese friend to email them.. lol

Snake the camera wire in, install the reverse light led light bar, tap into reverse light wire, no errors.

I think the best to do is find someone in nyc that’s has a Oem nav and I’ll pull my unit to hook up. All you need is the radio to nav and see if it works. Drive around and make sure all the function works. Dash hole is something you need to figure out. Pulling my unit to test is no problem.

I'm actually not located too far from NYC I'm in Boston...might be worth the effort for me to drive down.

The funny thing is I have an extra OEM non nav dashboard but I'm not sure how much work it is to replace the OEM Nav Harness to a regular radio one.

I'll keep researching here and on z4forum to see what and how it can be done

No Cut solution ! I email them about compatible with factory navigation. It replaces the bmw radio. A bit cheaper i think

So someone said on reddit that it does not work with the steering wheel control, need additional cable..

still reading up on it.

Hi I happened to locate this item on eBay... they say it is supposedly compatible with nav/non nav cars. The vendor does have 3k plus reviews

hard to say.. bulk of his sales are led bulbs.. only sold a few android... that is the one I originally wanted, snapdragon 8 core.. much better than my 6 core one.. the aliexpress seller said it was not compatible so I didn't pursue.. only because its a long way to send back

I got a dashboard for sale if you want to buy it?

Perhaps you could use the storage cubby from the X3 instead of the pop up screen to fit the cutout?

I think from 03-10 but I'm not sure it would fit in the Z4.

Well scooped up and Android Unit with car play and installed it. Just need to install the backup camera now perhaps a front camera for recording purposes. At this time I have not hooked up the mic, gps, or what i suspect to be a wifi antenna. Although I did run the GPS antenna to the right cup holder in case I want to install it down the road. My car had factory professional Nav, so i scooped up a business radio so i can see the stations. The factory audio/cd at least to me sound better than the professional nav ever did.

Lastly although the screen is big I do not believe it really obstructs my visibility. There may be a custom baseplate cover in the works for the Z4 to make this screen sit lower.. (might be able to sit an inch / inch and a half lower)
