what's CDV delete?
I’ve seen posts about this mod. Can someone explain what it is?

Yep, that's the clutch delay valve delete. You of course need to have a manual to do the delete. There is a little valve block you can remove under the car to cause the clutch to engage faster. It was designed to help make engagement more slow and smooth, but at the cost of clutch wear. I did remove mine. Takes only a few minutes, just need a couple of wrenches and hose clamping vice grips to keep fluid loss and air pockets down.

Ditto all of the above, with a bit more explanation on the purpose of the valve. It slows down the release of hydraulic pressure when the clutch pedal is released, which I suppose the engineers thought would keep someone from side-stepping the pedal and sending massive shockwaves through the drivetrain. By slowing down the fluid flow, even if a person did try to "drop the clutch" the actual engagement would be more gentle.
The problem with this is that experienced clutch users can shift quickly and smoothly, without slamming or jamming or shockwaving the drivetrain, and they can do so faster than the CDV will let them. So it gets in the way for some people. If you don't notice it, don't worry about it. If you do, it's a simple fix. |
