Jay from Ground Control once showed a graph of a BMW stock Sachs shock on a shock dyno, and the result wasn't pretty. At a simulated 30,000 mile it's effective damping rate has dropped to 50%, and by 60,000 mile it was practically useless.

Problem is, there's little symptom as to the ineffectiveness of the dampers, so there are people who are driving on 100,000 mile shocks that has no idea that they're riding on dampers that are practically useless.

And no BMW will not cover shock replacement because it's wear and tear item.

Tires are wear and tear items...Does the extended service plan cover that? Clutches are wear and tear items too...I'm pretty sure that's not covered.

Heck if I recall, BMW stopped covering wiper blades now too.

Hmm..maybe true, but should be taken with a little salt since "Jay from Ground Control" may be trying to sell some "Ground Control" shocks.
